Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

Hello! I attended NWP last semester as well. Myself and DjSanguine have answered many questions and listed a few facts about NWP on the Reapplying Club thread. NWP is an amazing program and place. I could go on for ages about my experience there and what has done for me! If you have any questions feel free to PM me or ask them on the Reapplying Club thread. Best of luck to you and your DS

Thanks so much your words provide comfort and hope!

Some Updated information from the Academy Admissions Facebook page

FAQ:
1) Does USAFA have a waitlist for Appointments.
NO! USAFA does not have a waitlist program.
2) How many Qualified No Vacancy letters went out:
USAFA sent out close to 1100 Qualified No Vacancy letters.
3) Around how many of the 1,100 are generally given appointments due to people turning down USAFA?
Less than 1% of the 1,100 QNV's will be given appointments due to people turning down USAFA

The last FAQ was the one that caught my eye, if that percentage is correct, then only about 11 people from the QNV list will be offered appointments. I am somewhat shocked by that number, and I'm hoping that it was a typo. It is still so early in April, I cannot imagine that there will not be more movement in the next few weeks. If this information is correct, then the best that my fellow stalkers can hope for are Falcon and Prep offerings appearing in their mail - that is a good thing - but clearly appointments will be far and few in between.

Actually I would believe that is not a typo.

From previous yrs they always sent out hundreds more offers (usually around 1600 for a 1350 class size), this yr they seem to be systematically watching the offers going out.

Think of it like a wedding...people send out in waves, but know the magic number they can't surpass.

Invite A group goes out 6-9 weeks prior, depending on how many acceptances respond, they send out B group 4-6 weeks prior. If they still have room C group goes out.

Previous yrs they did only 1 group and believed that traditionally 25% would turn them down. They were okay with 1300. Now that know it has to be less, so they are doing the waves.

I would doubt this yr there will be many picked up from the "no vacancy" list purely based on how they are appointing.

Sam, I loved hearing your good news! What a wonderful feeling! My son got the QNV letter and we are actively pursuing Option B (great engineering college, ROTC program, school spirit, etc). It requires a mental shift, but we like to say "All Roads Lead to Rome" meaning there is more than one way into the AF. We have a relative who went to the same college and became distinguished AF pilot. Wound up in same pilot training as the USAFA graduates. Also reapplying to the USAFA, and holding out a "tiny shred of hope" that the lovely Falcon Foundation or USAFA Prep School letter might come. His "day of deep despair" turned around the next day to new determination to "keep moving forward, never give up." Plus (silly note, I know), he is really looking forward to Senior Prom. The hardest part is the 10 people a day who come up to my son asking about his USAFA status assuming he got in. It's driving him crazy.

Thanks

Pima,

Thanks and I think your spot on. It makes the stalk easier to handle when you understand the reason. Taking their time will ensure that they dont undershoot the limit as much as avoiding any overshoot.

I just wonder how many stalkers we still have left? DS is one.

I'm still on this thread (and Reapplying Thread) because I would like to see how the kids situations resolve that are still awaiting news. We are in it with them till the end.

I'm hoping to hear about Falcon and Preps

Falcon and Preps - that is why I keep involved. The information about appointments from the Admissions FB page was very sobering, but at least we know what we are facing. :thumb:

Agreed, Tailwind Angel! I have already joined the prestigious Reapplying Club "for members only" but I want to see how all of the friends I've made over here end up. I'm crossing my fingers for all of the remaining stalkers!

Same thing with my daughter! She is so tired of people asking her, having assumed she would be in. Funny my D just bought her prom dress and for once I liked her first choice. (something about spending her life in uniforms, she doesn't always know what to do with fashion.) My son who is ROTC is plugging forward and has told me that if he gets offered a pilot slot he won't be turning it down. Med school can wait! He hasn't given up the dream and has a nice hefty GPA to go with it. You never know. I still have my fingers crossed for those who still don't know!

Still Waiting in VA

Futurepilot's Mom here...been reading posts for weeks now. What a positive and supportive group! Says a lot about the kind of people in our armed services today. Well, still waiting. Thought we would get the QNV letter by now - but nothing. DS called AFA and counselor gave no info. last week. Hope to know something soon. Don't know if this is good or bad at this point.

Military being a small community, A friend's husband was in the same situation (lets just say a long time ago). He had heard nothing. As he was in the middle of figuring out his financials for plan B(late in May) he received his appointment. Here is to keeping my fingers crossed for your child and "It's not over til it's over! or the fat lady sings."

Thanks for the optimism! Wishing only good things for everyone's children! Isn't that what we are all trying so hard to do - raise good kids who think of others and use their gifts and talents to the best of their abilities! All the best!

USAFA84, I like you already! We think alike! I can picture it now. Our kids going to same high school, all dolled up for prom. Both online via phones checking status updates for USAFA and telling each other, no parties for us, no craziness, no even driving one mph over speed limit, buddy. As a matter of fact, our mothers are going to drive us, wear chauffeur uniforms and promise not to talk or act like they know us. Drop and give me 100! How's those pullups coming? By the way, you look awesome in pink.

PS-for those still with no news, me personally, that would give me some hope there is a REASON why................... :) happy face

Thanks Tailwind. Just checked mail and no letter. Is this the norm as far as notificaiton goes? Trying to stay optimistic. My son would like nothing better than to wave a BFE under the nose of his father, who is 1983 Citadel grad...LOL

New to This!

I have been following this site for about a month now, lots of good info and positive feedback! Our DS is still waiting to here from the academy. We have been stalking not only the mailbox but this forum too! DS did recieve a 4yr tlype 7 scholarship. He just was given a medical waiver today from AFROTC. My question is does the AFROTC and the AFA use the same medical guidelines? I know the Academys are all a little different but thought maybe ROTC and AFA would be the same?!

Ah shucks :( Hubby just called USAFA advisor and he said our DS has a QNV letter in the mail. Well, we move on and go forward. My DS is disappointed, but is ready to press on. One small consolation for me is that my last lil chick will now only be a 45 min drive from home :)

KBUR: Sorry to hear that. Keep us up to date if you hear back about Prep or Falcon! Good Luck!

You are too funny! I was laughing at the thought. It is a shame we are all in different states. I truly believe these kids could easily be life long friends. I am just a little sad these days knowing DD plan B is going to take her across the country from me. She came home with her graduation details today. Welp, "this is really happening!" OH! I definitely see me in a chauffeur outfit. Personally, thank you for the laughter.

Love the posts happening really upbeat and positive. My DS got the QNV letter on his 18th B day on April 1st but already he is pumped for re-apply and has secured a spot at the NWP the director is very nice and is certain she can get him to the academy next year. On the prom comment post that sounds like you are talking about my DS had to laugh!!!

A friend of mine was on a business trip at some event and was able to talk to 3 USAFA senior cadets, and she mentioned my son getting the QNV letter. They said, HEY! Don't give up! We got our appointments in JUNE of our admitting year.

USAFA QNV Parent Pain (tell me about it) - 1 year of non stop go go go preparation by your kid...........then 1 year of paper paper paper, incoming mail for Plan B-C-D...... Now it is April. Total mind shift. Paper paper paper for finish up alternative plans and check off all the list. Tons of homework, keeping up grades, usually going full tilt boogie in varsity in some sport. Holding off the party crowds with one hand, standing strong. Then boom! Graduation and prom coming up. Keeping up workouts. Time moving too fast. Start buying Plan B college T-shirts, reading up on catalogs. Shazbot! Then June/July here-reapply for USAFA. Get that CFA done. Get those transcripts ordered in May. Talk to those teachers and rec letters for over summer. Try to have a spring break where you don't kill yourself, twist an ankle, tear up an ACL.

Don't know about you, but my kid went to school today proudly wearing Plan B T-shirt while checking the mail every day for Falcon/Prep. These kids are great at juggling multi-tasks and keeping focused. As for the parents,..........................well, we are whooped tired.
