Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Not to rain on everyone's parade (scheduled for March 1) but I doubt we will notice much change. I really don't think we will see a significant increase in appointment activity until the latter part of March.......

Unfortunately, you're probably right :( Everyday I check the mailbox for that elusive BFE, the wait is agony!

ha ha! been there, done that!! Did it all February, so I am slightly comforted by the fact that every day that goes by is one day closer to the BFE and that we likely are within a month of finding out (maybe 6 weeks).

A month is still a long time! Here's to hoping it goes by quicker than February.

Not to get anyone excited or anything, but today at the Preparatory School, they gave 10 preppies early appointments to the Academy. So that was 10 appointments that went out today! Keep stalking you mailbox stalkers! =D

Thank you jwalsh1! we appreciate the news! At least they are doing something. Honestly, though, this is sort of expected, isn't it? Don't most Preppies get appointments?

Unfortunately not, but I remain optimistic. They were trying to raise the mood during these "Dark Ages". We had a briefing from a Vietnam POW, to try and show us it can always be worse, and then awarded the ten appointments. I am proud of all of those who received them though!

Also, to answer your question, 2bornot2b, typically preppies get appointments, yes, but grades and other issues factor in. This year is a competitive year, and we're being told not everyone is going to make it. However, today at the briefing, General Gould did say that there are 203 more appointments where those came from, in due time.

203/240=89% I guess that isn't too bad.....

Well, what the General said was accounting for everyone in the room. We've had quite a few people leave this year. Most were people deciding to dis-enroll, but not all.

I was using the max enrollment of 240. The lower the denominator, the higher the percentage, so that is even better, I guess.

ok, that makes sense. Thank you for clarifying. Best wishes for your upcoming appointment! With any luck, my DS will be a classmate of yours.

Best of luck on the hopeful BFE! Keep stalking that mailbox! I hope to see some of those nifty photographs like they had in last year's post!

On a side-note, I wonder if this years mailbox stalker club will get as massive as last years.

copied this from the AFA (Admissions) Facebook page, where the Academy spokesperson is responding to a question about how to get information, and they are told to contact their counselor:

"after April 1st. By that time the majority of acceptance letters for the class of 2016 will have already been sent out"...

Looks like the month of March is the magical month for all us mailbox stalkers........

Is their an academy representative on these threads? If so, please PM me back. Thanks.

SMNE......meanwhile on other fronts......the local US Marine recruiter is "stalking" DS.

Ha! ncmom, you sound exactly like my parents. They are praying I receive an appointment to USAFA or USMA so I don't think about that Marine option NROTC scholarship! They think my grandfather (who was a Command Sergeant Major in the Army) would be so stunned his granddaughter joined the Marines he'd rise from the grave! :yikes: Makes for a good laugh whenever I bring it up, but hey, I hope they're ready if that's the route I choose to go!

I spend my day checking in here. I also find myself checking DS's candidate page to see if "magically" his status has changed from when I checked it 3 hours ago. I'm his stepdad and am probably more anxious than him and his mother combined! This forum helps me to keep my sanity. I read each of your posts with understanding and empathy. I work 30 minutes from our mailbox, but I'm a stalker nonetheless. I'm sure that all of we parents here are absolutely awed by the quality of all the candidates, especially our own.

DW was told by a Naval Academy BGO, that the Service Academies are all "Ivy League" schools, and that since USAFA and USNA had accepted him as a fully qualified candidate he could likely be accepted at Harvard, Princeton, Yale or MIT, if that's what he wanted. Kinda put it all in perspective for us.

That being said, you candidates on the forum have pity on us poor parents. To have selected a military career and a life of honor, integrity, and excellence is too rare today. We are so proud of you and want you to have that opportunity at the Academy. We want it so bad for you that it hurts. Be patient with us.

Yes, USAFA is definitely instilling patience in me. I received an LOA from USNA in October and later an appointment.. and I have waited from a response from USAFA...although at times I have felt like just accepting..but I need to be wise and evaluate all options. it feels like its been forever. Almost there comrades!

Haleym, you're right, it does make for a good laugh around our home as well. DS went in to the recruiter's office a few weeks ago and talked with him about the Marine option NROTC scholarship. The recruiter even had him try on his dress uniform jacket and took his picture in it!

Whatever he decides to do I'm good with it. It's his dream and his life and career. Above all, he has to be happy with his choices. Of course, his first is USAFA.

I wish you well in your endeavors and know that you're parents will be ready and just as proud of you as we are of him.

Good luck! Thank you for choosing to serve and protect our great nation.:thumb:
