Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

I did not receive any news from USAFA today, but received $26,000 from my plan C! Also, the fact that I haven't received a TWE yet makes me happy.

Sounds great! I too am happy that I haven't received a TWE yet.

Does anybody know how the TWE's/national pool work? I know that there were recruited athletes that receive appointments on my MOC's slate but the fact that I have not received a TWE is what confuses me. Will I not receive one until they confirm their acceptance or will I not hear back until the class of 2016 is full? Thanks.

From what I understand there are still a couple of days left in "early april" which is when USAFA said all of the letters would be out. If you have not received anything I would take that to mean either your app hasn't been processed or that you are competitive but they are seeing how many people accept their appts. before any more are offered.
I think the way it works is they offer more appointments than slots they have say for example 1200 when they only can take 1050 because there are kids who have other appointments and who would rather do ROTC. So I think that unless they dip below that 1050 then they wont send out anything else. (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong this is just what I have heard)

Heard from a local ALO that only 500 appointment offers have gone out. Regardless of what has been said, I have been told there is another wave coming next week. I'm aware there are probably about 300 to go to prep/LEAD, but I think there are quite a few more appointments to be had.

300? I thought the max was 240. I don't think that 60 people would decline an appointment to USAFAPS... especially with the competition this year and next.

So the current guess is next week? For the "next wave"? When should I get SUPER NERVOUS lol :p?
I was expecting to hear things tomorrow or Friday, but maybe not.

This is wonderful!

Me too! Explains why many of us haven't heard back yet. Guess we have to continue stalking, huh?

There are 240 slots at Prep, including 50 for the LEAD program. Prep appointments are in addition to the number of slots available for the Class of 2016, however, which I have seen reported at 1050 (1040 per the FB Admissions page).

Just an FYI, from my experience last year (Dad - please feel free to chime in), there is alot of garbled communications coming from various sources. The more time you spend with government and the military, the more you come to understand it. So never assume the information that you have is actionable.

That said, I don't know if you can "bank" on the idea that there are "quite a few more appointments to be had". The fact that you have not heard yet is good, don't get me wrong. But I suspect that the Admissions staff is being very careful with filling out the class. If you look at the profile for the class of 2015 (the largest cut down year), USAFA was targeting a class of 1120, they offered 1372 appointments, and 1118 appointees showed up on I-Day (some people turned down their appointments to attend other schools, others were unable to meet their commitments for various reasons (Senioritis, alcohol, etc. According to a source in admissions dozens upon dozens of appointees every year fall prey to some sort of disqualifying activity prior to I-Day. So those of you with appointments be pre-warned)) and were joined by 19 turnbacks and international students to bring the I-Day class total to 1137. This year they have 70 less appointments to offer - it does not sound like much, but for those in the National pool, 70 is a sizable number.

As it has been suggested earlier, be heartened that you are still in the running, but get working on your Plan B now.

Still waiting....

My DS is still waiting. No WTE or QNV yet. He accepted an AFROTC type 7 to SDSU. Plan B is in effect but how long do we wait? College fees are due May 1st.....Stalking is exhausting....N87

Well that info coupled with the fact that many of us haven't heard yet leads me to believe him. Maybe BFEs are going out next week and they're telling MOCs on a Thursday again. Don't hold me to it, but again, this is coming from an ALO who I would guess has some idea of what's going on. Regardless of whether the info is correct or not, I'm sure we will know shortly!

I posted recently about presidential noms and when those appointments typically go out. Wondering if there is anyone who could share how this has been done in the past. On the "official class" thread there are only a handful of pres. which leads me to believe they appoint from this group after all MOC appointments are charged especially since many candidates have both MOC and presidential. Any thoughts from posters who have been around and seen what has been done in past years?

It would be foolish to bank on attending USAFA in any circumstances, and my plan B is lined up and ready to go. This being said, the combination of rumored unfilled slots coupled with no TWE is encouraging.

There will be another board (national pool maybe) after the 15th. Word has it that 100-150 records will be reviewed.
