Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

My DS is also sitting on multiple appointments, he just cant decide. One day he is leaning towards one and then the next day the other. I know of several other applicants in the same position. They have been given until 5/1 to make a decision but DS knows there are candidates out there anxiously waiting and he is planning on making a decision this weekend. The Air Force Academy called him last weekend to find out what his plans are, it seemed to me they were trying to determine how many positions they had filled. Hang in there a while longer.

Thanks for the info, it seems they are going to be able to pull for the wait list for sure. So if i do end up getting wait listed or anyone who is currently wait listed should still be hopeful about getting in. Since I have heard the wait list is new, does anyone know if we would be able to find out how many people are wait listed after April 15th(proposed date everyone should know about their status)

Facts from another Time Traveler

Like 'Dad' I was a "Stalker from 2015". In fact I was the original MBS, needless to say many of you have done me proud!

As for the 'waitlist'. If you look at the stats from last year, 1372 appointment were offered, 1118 accepted and showed up on I-Day. That meant that for various reasons (accepting an appointment from another Service Academy, deciding to do the "fun" college route with ROTC, getting a last minute medical problem, severe cases of senioritis (to include drinking/drugs)) 254 people declined their appointments or in some cases had them recinded. So there you go, there will be some jostling around late in the game, but keep in mind that this process has been going on with each batch of appointments offered. So it is not as if suddenly hundreds of people from the national pool will be offered appointments in April/May. As Pima has mentioned numerous times, those are few come the middle of April.

Another thing to consider is that every year there are people who travel to Colorado Springs, gets in line to process in at Doolittle Hall, climb the stairs to process their paperwork, walk past the wall of honor, cross the bridge, get on the bus, and when the bus stops at the base of the ramp with the footprints, some of them never get off their seats. These folks ride back down the hill and process back out. An appointee that my son befriended nearly a year ago, did just that. Rumor has it that nearly a dozen appointees processed out before BCT. My point is that being appointed is an honor, but accepting the appointment can be a tough decision, being a cadet at an Service Academy is no small commitment. Some folks don't fully realize that until they are at USAFA on I-Day.

Another thing to keep in mind, getting accepted is only part of the battle, staying in is a challenge as well. But that is a topic for a different time. Good luck folks!

Anyone from NC heard anything?

From the Appointment thread:

33. usafa2012, NC-08, Congressional, Kissell, -, 3/22/12
46. HighFlyer17, NC-02, Congressional, Ellmers 3/24/12, Appointment Accepted

Remember that around 10% (+/- 3% ish) of candidates are on the forums.

I believe the portal does only update on Sunday. Maybe he called his counselor and the counselor updated it early. (There's my attempt to rationalize his situation.)

FYI, my DS's portal updated on a thursday am 3/29 to appointment offered. This was our first notice and got the BFE Sat, so it's not just Sunday. Good luck to all.
