Class of 2019 Appointment Thread

Once someone DOES get appointed, is there a bunch of paperwork they send for you to fill out? When will appointees be able to start preparing to actually attend (as far as paperwork and all that goes)? Knowing me, if I get appointed, I'll be super excited, but then I expect I will be impatiently twiddling my thumbs waiting for more paperwork to come my way.

Also, will they start notifying people who won't be accepted soon? Just curious. Though I hope I won't fit into this category, of course!

baileydb,

Our DS received an email (very early in the morning) notifying him of an update on his portal that had a "Congratulations...." letter. About a week later, he received the same letter on nice stationary. He has accepted his appointment and his portal states to look for more info in the Spring. This seems to be different than the other Academies as there is not a BFE that arrives in the mail (so no snail mailbox stalking for USAFA).

On another note, we are rooting for you as you seem very motivated and excited to be accepted. Good luck.

Thank you so much!!!! Congratulations to your DS! It must be so nice to have that period of waiting over with!! We will see what happens for me when Jan 15 rolls around. I am secretly hoping that maybe the Academy will send out some more appointment notifications around Christmas, but not counting on it even a little bit. Now comes for the preparing for the worst part...filling out other college applications, AFROTC scholarship.... all that fun stuff!

Target2019,
Did you have an LOA with your JROTC nomination?

hackneyjake,
I received my JROTC nomination, and then a few days later I received my Letter of Appointment. I never received an LOA that told me that I would probably be accepted when I got a nomination.

T, my son, received his nomination last week from Sen. Durbin. We took our visit over the weekend and it just further affirmed that this is where he wants to be. He's 1/393 in his HS class, 4.0 gpa, Class President, hold a state level StuCo position, National Honor Society, Illinois State Scholar, and a 31 on his ACT. Somebody help talk me off the ledge here because we haven't heard any thing and his packet was completed early October. Is no LOA a killer?

My son had VERY similar stats and no LOA. He was appointed to both WP and USAFA. If he completed the EA application he will hear something by Jan 15th. In any case, I believe your son has competitive stats and has cleared a giant hurdle by having a nomination. Now you just need to ensure he pursues all other options and he continues to have fun and stay safe. I am positive something will happen.

Best of luck.

how did you get an appointment so fast?

I just received a nomination...how did you get notification about your appointment already?

I think some people are confused about nominations and appointments. Because I know for a FACT that one of those specific people that said they have an appointment are talking about a nomination but they think it's an appointment. I know this because they happen to be in my district and it is impossible for them to have their appointment because 1) they are an alternate, I am the principal nominee for my district to USAFA 2) even if she had an LOA combined with her alternate nomination, the nominations haven't been uploaded from my district yet 3) they claimed they got the appointment on this post about 2 days after the nomination letters were sent out to the candidates, I know this because I spoke to my MOC on the phone about when the office will be releasing the alternate nomination. So it is simply impossible for the person that is claiming they have an appointment to actually have one.

But I'm not gonna tell her. There's no point of getting into it with them. Plus I really don't want to be the one to bum their joy :shake:

Why are you even posting this?

What value does it add?

Do you know for a fact that someone from admissions didn't call her and tell her that she has an appointment? Maybe they did. Maybe her appointment was from a source other than your MOC.
If she had an LOA and recieved ANY nomination-even one of the other 9 your MOC can make for each vacancy she'll get a appointment.

Spot on with your observation/comment. Our DS attends a large high school and we just found out this weekend that another student has an LOA to USAFA. We had absolutely no idea they were even applying (we know the family from common sports but are not that close to them). So one never knows who has what.......

Without being privy to "all sources of nomination/appointment" there really is no way you could "know for a fact" the status of any candidate other than yourself. I appreciate your point, however I think you phrased it a little too strong and that doesn't reflect well upon you.
I would ask that you "tone it down" and be justifiably proud of your accomplishments while being both humble and respectful of others. The person you speak of just may know what they're talking about; and they may not, but our forum is definitely NOT the place to "slap someone down" for any reason.

You are right, sir. Rereading my post, it was a bit out of a line. I was just trying to prove to someone don't get to panicked about what people say, because it may not always appear to be that way. I understand if I came across a little to strong, I had no negative intentions despite ip the fact that it may appear that I did. I guess it would have been better off If I simply said "I think some people are confusing nomination and appointments, due to my observations". Next time, I will put a lot more consideration into my post before I am so quick to put it out for everyone to see. Again, I appolagize for that post and especially if it offended anyone. It was out of line and I can assure you it will not happen again.

Any Virginia (MOC/Senatorial) Appointments?

DS received nominations from Congressman Wolf and Senator Warner and we are anxiously awaiting January 15th. Has anyone in VA received an Appointment from a non-Presidential slate?
Best of luck to all candidates!

FutureCadet 58...BCT is waiting. There are a lot of upperclassmen that frequent this forum. Get humble.

Yes ma'am/sir, again, I apologize for that post as I definitely worded it wrong, causing my point to come across a lot stronger than I intended for it to. I can assure you that I will be humble from now on, I learned an early lesson from that post. Thanks.

Biggest thing I can suggest to you is to keep your opinions in matters like these to yourself. If you do get in and go to the academy, it would be wise to not stand out negatively like this in any form of social media, cadre are always watching.

You are completely right. I won't post anything like that again, and on all social media I try to stay very low key. That post was a little out of character and I came across way to strong...I hope one post on here doesn't define me because I believe that I have a lot to share and I really do like helping people. Regarding that post; it's just a Live and learn situation that won't happen again.
