Does anyone happen to know when MOCs tend to call? Thanks!

I'm not sure why it really matters....even if USNA told each MOC at the same exact time (which isn't the case)....their staffers might not be in the office, the MOC might want to personally call (although it's not common), they might notify their MOC first before calling, some MOCs might not even call...quite a few variables. Practically the only guarantee is they won't call overnight.
 
Even the same MOC with the same staff can change from year to year: MOC called and left a voicemail congratulating DD in an afternoon first week in Feb. Two years later DS found out via email from admissions two days before New Year's Day.

I may add that DD got a call from this MOC informing her that she is being nominated. Son received a letter in the mail from this MOC about his nomination instead.

In our case and I think it is probably in most cases, the Staff member who is running the SA Nominations Office for the Congressman makes a call to a parent (as a heads-up) that morning to tell one of them that the DD/DS is to expect a call from the MOC, that evening , after school. They ask Parent to confirm the phone numbers and possible schedule to help set-up for the 'surprise'.

When I saw the 202 area code on my cell ID that morning, I figured it spam and let it go.... My wife who answers spam calls on her cell, got the news first. She called me later that morning; her first words to me? "Murf, are you sitting down?..... you better, because I can't stop shaking"........Oh NO ! Did something bad just happened raced thru my mind....it was one of the best calls we ever shared together, ........we will never forget the news .....I am so glad I missed the 'spam' call and she got the news first.
 
Ours didn't call at all but rather sent a congressional recognition certificate in the mail, DS found out about his appointment via the portal before knowing about the nomination (he had an LOA and it was the last step) so you never know.
 
murfthesurf, the same was true when our DD received her appointment notice.

MOC staff member called DH in the early afternoon, first trying his cell phone (missed call) and then the home phone (yes, we still have the old-fashioned land line). When he answered the home phone, he thought it was a salesperson or charity wanting money - 99% of the calls we get on that phone. I didn't help that the MOC staff member started the call without identifying herself, but instead said, "Who am I speaking to?". That didn't go over well with DH, who then not so pleasantly said, "You called me, I think you need to identify YOURSELF". As soon as she clarified who she was, he immediately apologized and they had a good laugh. Then without exactly stating DD had the appointment, she stated why she was calling and that she wanted to coordinate a time for that day and phone number at which DD could be reached so the Congresswoman could call her.

Unfortunately, my DH could not be present for the REAL phone call that evening. He gave them my cell number so DD wouldn't be suspicious (haha), and I had to come up with a little white lie to get her home immediately after her college class that was 45 minutes away, to meet the time he provided.

When my phone "rang", DD was standing right next to it, but really didn't think anything about it even with the 202 area code. Even I had a momentary lapse of memory about who would be calling until I heard the voice and intro, paraphrased, "Hi, this is Congresswoman xx, is DD (actual name) there?". My DD was watching me, still had no clue, since the only thing she overheard was her name. I said just a moment, handed her the phone, and as soon as the Congresswoman said her name, I thought DD was going to fall to her knees and drop my phone (almost did on both accounts), and tears were flowing, very happy ones. This was one of those "priceless" moments.

So, to make a long story short, if the MOC typically calls the appointee, they will probably try to coordinate a good time and contact number to ensure the greatest impact.

BTW - nominations were just received via snail mail.
 
Does anyone have any idea how many applications are left to be reviewed? I've seen a lot of TWE's recently and there are a lot of appointments on the thread so I imagine the number must be dwindling fast.

Great story Capri120....
My son got his MOC call at 11:00pm. The MOC had tried a couple of other times that day (DS was in labs/late night project with his engineering team) and the MOC finally got him. He said since he was a college kid, 11pm was probably not that late!! (DS was a college re-applicant).
 
DD is a high school student taking college classes on top of high school ones, has been doing this for three years. Agree with many posts on this forum that college classes prepare the kids for time management, study habits, etc.

DS never got a call from MOC. It was a portal update at 8:30 a.m. that alerted him of the great news!
 
Our MOC called DD from home district area code and not from a 202 number, probably found out her appointment while back in home office. I suggest don't judge it from the area code.

It was never coordinated with us either.

We left MOC's voicemail on the phone and I must have played it no less than 10 times. One day out of the blue DS got up and hit "delete"! He said he was "helping" me!
 
Spring Tasks - Are there things we should be doing between now and June 30th? So far we've scheduled Doctor appt for TB test and meningitis vaccine, and reserved air and hotel for I day and parent weekend. Anything else? Are we supposed to be getting a checklist or something?

You'll get more than just a checklist...you'll get enough paperwork to fill out to warrant a new three ring binder by the time your done.
