Current reapplicant doing AFROTC at an SMC. I was wondering if I still have a decent shot at USAFA academics wise. I did not do as well as I wanted in my first semester of college. Had an A in all my classes except for three. An A- in chem lab, a B in Chem, and a C+ in calculus. This all resulted in a 3.4 first semester GPA. I have no idea on what the avg accepted replicant stats look like so I am asking if anyone has experience with this and knows if I completely lost my shot at USAFA due to my first semester performance. Also I have a 690 math and 730 reading SAT but I am pretty sure they care more about college performance than SAT scores.

IMO you're fine. They might make you retake calculus if you get in, but that C+ is the only real flaw I see.

I've heard the average GPA at USAFA is 2.6, and USAFA wants to see A's and B's out of college reapplicants so I think I wouldn't worry too much

Do you know how they look at HS GPA for college reapplicants?

They will. They look at absolutely everything you give them. But great performance in college can do well to counteract poorer performance in HS.

Or, if your HS academic performance is stellar, they'll still look at it and that means good things for you.

I have a 3.2 GPA (unweighted, 3.6 weighted) for HS but a 4.0 from my first semester in college. So for USAFA not competitive at all for high school, but did well in university.

This I know from speaking directly with an SA admissions consultant: GPA is less important than the transcript itself. USAFA will look at whether you took a plebe-like schedule and how you performed in the key courses, i.e. STEM and English. They’ll also look at your high-school transcript and test scores. It’s all in play.

As for your chances? No one here knows because we don’t know what the rest of your application package looks like. That’s the honest answer.
