USNA lists "Informal attire" required for Navy/MC stadium for commencement on May 29. They define "informal attire" for men as "Business suit". I am afraid some of the family will show up without wearing a suit.

Wil they be denied entry?

Not a soul will give two cents about what you or your family are wearing. [MAYBE your mid, but probably not.] The only reason you might care about what people are wearing is for photo purposes.

During our FirstTime, the President was the commencement speaker, he didn't seem to care what I was wearing either.

Relax. Enjoy the day.

You will see a whole slew of people in business suits to shorts and tshirts. Whatever you want your family photos to look like is what you should wear. I think for the most part you will see folks in suits, slacks and shirts, and khakis and polos. Keep an eye on the weather, that time of year can range from cold to hot in Annapolis. Also, bring sunscreen if it is going to be sunny.

Wear what is comfortable. Sports Jacket and tie for photos but anything is acceptable. Weather is a consideration and it is usually hot. Try to get up in the shade on the east side of the stadium.

Agree with above posts. Wear what is comfortable for the day.

That said, I did have on a suit and tie and the rest of the family was dressed up as well. We had previously agreed to meet our Mid on the field at a specified spot for first salute, rugby team, and family pictures. It is a real zoo getting on the field after commissioning, plan on a meeting spot or area. Do not rely on cell communications as they do not work for crap in the stadium.

Consider the weather. Our graduation day, it was about 72 degrees. MOST men wore sport coats and women wore dresses. However, it was also 27 yrs ago!

If it's 95 degrees an 95% humidity, a sundress for women works well. For men, either skip the jacket or carry it. You don't want to pass out from heat exhaustion (this happened to my mother at a subsequent graduation in high heat and humidity).

MOST people dress up a bit. It's a very nice event with lots of important people. That said, if you show up in shorts, no one will turn you away.

Somewhere on these posts is a comment regarding meeting your Mid after the ceremony. Prepare beforehand. It is a nightmare getting down onto the field and it takes a while. If I remember there are a couple of tents behind the Mids and toward the monument section of the Stadium. Ask them to meet you on the field and near one of these. They all look alike even those in the blue blouses. Don't depend on cell phones. I am here! Where are you?
