Competitive ACT/SAT Scores

To m19, rascalflatts5858, and pusueadream,

My apologies; I am sorry if I have given you wrong information. Please accept my heartfelt apology; and I will make sure I do better. This is better news for me too, I'm not real strong on the SAT, but the ACT seems to be easier for me. Still, I'll focus hard on improving both of my test scores.

Rascalflatts5858,

Thanks for being understanding. Although it is my dream to go to West Point, sometimes I get confused on when to do this, where to send this, ect.
Thanks again. Hope to see ya at West Point in 2014!:thumb:

USMAalltheway,

I completely agree with RascalFlatts5858!

I, too, hope to see both of you at USMA as Class of 2014. I think all of us on this site are on the right track, since we can receive good advice and help from all the great people on this site!

Good Luck to everyone on getting great test scores in the coming weeks!!!:thumb:

Thanks very much! For the sake of ease instead of need, I think I'll continue to improve the ACT. While my score is currently competitive, there is always room for improvement. I just didn't want to get to the point where I couldn't submit it if I had to.

This forum can't ever fall by the wayside as I depend on it far too much! I'm sure many can attest to the same! Thank you again.

Pursueadream,

I completely agree with this!!! The SAT and ACT always get me nervous, and its good to see how other people are doing on these tests. Besides, this forum is really informative about these tests.

You say your score on the ACT is competitive. If I may ask, how did you do? I'm taking the ACT in June(can't recall if it's the 6th or 13th). I had great trouble on the writing portion. Do have any advice on how to do better on the writing portion of the ACT? Thanks.

Hey,

Well, just received my ACT scores back. I kinda displeased with them. I'm glad I'm taking the ACT again. I got a mean average of 26 for my first time.

english: 30
Math: 24:thumbdown: (Boo trig!)
Reading: 26
Science: 23:thumbdown:(hard!)

I'm really pleased USMA has that score choice thing. Now, I need to focus on Math and Science in particular, and of course reading(and if possible, up my english more). Anyone have any suggestions on how to do better in Math, or science? Thanks.

i got in with a 30, but still keep trying for that 32 or 33 or more cuz you're going up against every other person in the country who wants in too.

So a 30 comp. is an okay test score, but it would be better for a 31/32+?

How does this compare to other people who got in/are trying to get in?

First ACT w/writing test:

Comp: 30
English: 31
Math: 28
Reading: 34
Science: 26 (thought I would do better, but oh well...)
Writing: 10 (out of 12; would change English to 30 w/combined English/writing score)

I just took the ACT w/writing again April 22, so should hopefully get those scores in a few weeks. I hope to do better, since the first time I did not do so good.

M19,

Dang! I feel inferior. So, you got a mean average of 31 right? From what I've heard, that's absolutly superb. Did you prepare for your tests or something? Man, to get a 34 on reading, that would be a miracle in my terms. I've never really been that great with these tests so far. Hopefully, that will change. By the way, do you know of any good ways to be more prepared or get higher scores on the ACT? Hopefully, one day, my scores will compare to yours. Good job with the ACT and good luck with nominations!:thumb:

Hey,

Just speaking out loud, can principals wite a LOR(letter of recommendation) for you? My principal for some reason thinks she can't.

Thanks, no I got a 30 comp. or average.

Um, well let’s just say that I did take an ACT/SAT test prep course, but not sure it really helped me at all. I'm lucky that I usually do decent on tests, but the best way to prep I think would just be to practice it a few times on your own, check out this site: http://www.actonlineprep.com/ , its costs money, about $20, but I think it has definitely helped me; especially since its a go at your own pace thing.

Also, I bought some books, and I took some practice tests in those as well. For the science part, I usually just read all the info really fast, skim the graphs/charts, then go straight to questions, which I then read and compare back with/to the previous info to find the answers.

Oh, and to answer a previous post of yours I believe, yes I do live in IL.

Hope that helps a little,

Good Luck on your tests and with your noms!!!!!

Don't see why they (principals) couldn't. But that rec. might just be supplemental, since USMA asks specifically for math and science teacher recommendations.

M19,

Does USMA take into account grammar for the LOR submitted by teachers? My math teacher is really good at teaching math and what not, but he's quite bad at grammar and spelling. Would it be better to ask for a nomination from him, or not because of all this?

Cool, you live in Illinois, kinda miss my hometown near the Wisconsin border. Still, like the weather down here WAY more!

I received a recommendation letter from my principal but ended up not using it because he didn't know me as well the people who wrote my other two. It's better if the person writting it knows you personally as well as proffesionally. I ended up using letters from my Senior Army Instructor (Retired O-5) and a family friend whom had seen me work a few times (Active Duty O-8). I figured who better to recommend me to become an officer than real army officers who know what it takes to be one. :thumb:

Also, I was accepted only taking the SAT.

I believe my main 2 scores were 650 and 720.
