    Hello all-
I would like your opinion about chances of being accepted into USMMA without participating in a team sport during high school. My son’s gpa, sat, extra curricular activities are all competitive. He can pass the CFA, but is working to improve scores before deadline.
In your opinion, would he still have a chance
Of being admitted with strengths being academic and not physical.
Thank you for any advice or insight you might be able to offer.

The answer is yes, as long as he can pass the CFA. There are plenty of non-athletic people at USMMA, it's a minority but well represented.

It is definitely possible for candidates to be accepted without high school sports experience. I would recommend working hard to have a high CFA score. Also, make sure leadership experience is present because it obviously cannot be demonstrated through a team captain position. Good luck!

I didn't do any traditional sports in high school, (I did dance and karate) but I still got into the USCGA! as long as he stays active and fit and is otherwise competitive, he should be fine!

My DS played no sports but was appointed to USMA. Did two extracurricular activities, studied abroad, 4.0+ gpa, average ACT or SAT.

I know what you went through in applying, DeltaDogs. My DD was an All-American dancer in high school. Tough to explain what that involves to interviewers and academy representatives who have no idea what that means. For my DD, it was at least 20 hours per week 11 months of the year. She was in better shape than most of her academy classmates. Congratulations on your admission to USCGA!

Having a sport on your resume isn't about physical ability specifically. It is about having an extra-curricular activity, about being a well rounded individual and about demonstrating an ability to manage multiple endeavours well. That can all be demonstrated by more than sports.

Lack of sports or other traditional high school activity can be viewed as an advantage, IF you take advantage of it. It's a chance to tell a story of how you had to go the extra step to participate and lead, and all those other good qualities besides just athletic ability or skills. It's one thing to be captain of the swim team. It's even more compelling when you are captain of another high school's swim team.

No violins playing in Band Co., but they will love to have him, especially if he can read music. They will switch him to another instrument.

I'm going to be joining the class of 2023 and I didn't have a sport. I'm homeschooled and live in a rural area, so I didn't really have an option for a sport. I made up for it with academics, leadership, doing physically challenging activities (through civil air patrol and local 5k's in my case) and by adding my weekly workout plan to my resume. Basically they just want to see that you are physically fit and a team player.

    Hope this helps!
