Hello,

I recieved an email from my congressional district saying that I received an appointment to USAFA without any more information. I checked my portal and email and found nothing saying I got in. Did I gain admission? I emailed my district and haven’t heard back yet.

Elected officials are given a window of time to make notifications before the portal updates, if they choose. This could indeed be good news.

Or a staffer mixed up saying “nomination” and “appointment,” which occasionally happens. If you haven’t been previously notified of a nom, that could be the case. If you’ve had the nom in your portal for awhile, then it could be an appointment.

See if your portal updates, by, say, next Wednesday end of day. If it doesn’t, and you haven’t heard back from the MOC staffers, I’d contact USAFA, tell them what you received and you are unsure of how to interpret it.

Hoping it’s the real thing and your portal does the magic thing!

Congratulations!!! The same thing happened to me last year. Was driving home from school and my representative called me and told me I got into USAFA. A week or two later it showed up in my portal.

Hello Sir,

I have had the congressional nomination for about three months. The email I received said a formal congratulations for getting their nomination to USAFA AND USNA. Then in a sentence after that they said “Congratulations on your nomination to the USNA and USAFA; we were also informed of your appointment to the USAFA!” I am genuinely confused if this is a staffer mistake or I really got in.

Capt MJ is a very nice lady. I am pretty sure that she was called Sir more times than Ma'am in this forum, but her profile gives you a clue 😂😂

My DS received a call from our congressman this evening with the news he had received an appointment. That is very nice, but my son found out over a week ago from a field force representative, and it appeared in his portal a few days ago. The moral of this story is that sometimes congressional offices can be a little in front of or behind the curve. The MOCs do get 48-72 hours of advance notice (minimum) before you will see an offer in your portal and some call immediately, others wait, some never call at all. Be excited but cautious - ”trust but verify” - if you are unsure, I would give it a couple days before you spread the word but probably very happy celebrations can begin shortly! Congratulations and thanks for your willingness to serve…

What MarTac said.

@brandonpluas given the amount of time since the notification of the nom, and if you have nothing in your portal that says “appointment,” I’d lean toward an unfortunate error by the staffer, a case of cart before horse.

@brandonpluas just to let you know, the same thing happened to me a few days ago. I called my congressman's secretary with a question, and she ended up telling me I received an appointment. Yay! I checked my portal and nothing has changed. However, I did receive an email from USAFA saying the COVID vaccine policy has been rescinded, and the email opened with "Dear Appointee." I'm not sure if everyone else got the same email though. All in all, I'd say it's a good thing for you to hear that, but remember that it could be a mistake.

Hello,

Thank you so much for this. I looked through my email and I did receive an email from USAFA regarding the Covid policy change. It said “Dear Appointee”, however, being a pessimist I am still in denial. I’m going to call my district Monday, but I am now 90% sure I received appointment.

Call USAFA. Tell them what you have received and that you are not sure how to interpret. They will obviously know.

Sounds like USAFA got ahead of itself on the COVID rescission policy. It is likely you received an appointment. Give it another day or so and your portal should update.

USAFA attempts to give MOCs one week (7 days) to contact candidates if one of their nominees gets an appointment. If you have more than one nomination, they will notify all of the MOCs who nominated you, not just the one to which you are assigned. It is up to the MOC whether they contact you or not and by what means they choose. After the 7 days are up, USAFA updates the portal.

My DS received a phone call from our MOC and an email from one of our Senators prior to his portal updating.

My DS received an appointment, but before he saw the decision he received a couple of email that were addressed "Dear Appointee". It is safe to say you probably received an appointment. Congratulations!

I received the good news! The email sent by my MOC staff was very ambiguous. I guess I was expecting something more formal like a phone call.

Re sir or ma’am, take at look at some user’s profiles and you can make an educated guess.
