Congressional Interviews

I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying my congressman would nominate a candidate based on the application form we filled out. Is it mandatory that they interview the candidate?

Nope - I never did an interview for a nomination, I just filled out the application form. In my year, she didn't have enough people interested to need to hold interviews

That’s some nice luck since I come from a highly competitive area.

In later years she had lots of interest and did hold interviews, but my district was historically not very competitive. I was the first one in something like a decade to apply to a service academy, and I went to a fairly large public high school (2200+ kids). It was certainly nice - I basically filled out a letter saying I was interested, sent my stats, and she called me a week later to nominate me.

The odds were in your favor! I’m sure you were also more than qualified but I’m surprised your high school was so big! What state is this? I’m just curious.

Haha - this was Oregon back around 2007, and ...I like to think I was also more than qualified, prompting the quick, very basic application turn around from her office ;) sure was a nice surprise as I was blindly fumbling my way through the application process (I already had an LOA, so this call basically meant an appointment pending being medically qualified)
