Hello everyone I am currently in the process for applying to USMA. I have been working on my essay for my congressional nomination and I would like some feedback.
The prompt: State why you want to attend one of the U.S. Service Academies and what you want to pursue with your education
Growing up in the United States has shaped my desire to make a positive impact on my country and community, motivating me to seek ways to inspire people become the best versions of themselves. However, finding a way to become a prominent leader in society has always been a question of mine. Becoming a professional athlete was my Initial thought and plan to become someone successful and influential in society, but after learning more about service academies specifically The United States Military Academy I was introduced to a whole new scope of ways to become a key leader in society, or even in the military now as an officer. I believe becoming a leader something you have to earn; going through and overcoming hardships and gaining respect from your peers from the achievement or accomplishments you earned, and this aligns with USMA’s values.
To gain a better understanding of what it means to be an Army officer, I reached out to my mentor William Sanders, a West Point graduate. His insights into the academy’s rigorous academic and leadership programs deepened my interest in attending a service academy. Additionally, I have begun getting recruited to play baseball at the academy. The opportunity to pursue both my academic and athletic goals at a service academy has greatly increased my drive for this path. Demanding schedules for both baseball and football provide both leadership and time management opportunities, preparing me for the rigor of a life at a U.S. Service Academy as both a student and a leader. With my education, I aim to major in cybersecurity, with a minor systems engineering and work with the U.S Army Cyber Command or the government, addressing national cyber threats.
