Hey guys, I'm currently applying for SS and I was wondering when I could apply for my congressional nomination. Do I have to wait to become an official candidate or can I get one currently, as soon as possible?

Hi, your congressman/woman will likely open applications in the coming months with a deadline sometime in early fall (September/October). Then, those deemed qualified will be interviewed (or not, some MOC's do not hold interviews) and that is how the congressman will decide their nomination slate. You probably won't know if you received one until sometime between November - January. Short answer: you won't get a nomination anytime soon.

If any of this wasn't clear, go to the search tab and search for "Nominations" there is plenty of useful information there!

Find your MoC's page on house.gov and senate.gov. Look for Service Academy under the service tab. Instructions and deadlines should be posted there.

Good luck!

thank you!

As long as you're on top of things so well....my son did his DODMERB physical and eye exam in the summer. Recommend that!

It's good to contact your Senators and Congressman now to kick-off the process and get smart on their application requirements.

However, now is also the time to...

1. Talk to your high school math and english teachers to arrange for the USNA teacher evaluations;

2. Decide who you want to ask to write your letters of recommendation for the Senators and Congressman;

3. Start the NROTC application.

If your goal is to be selected in the first board, which is a very wise goal to have because Navy operates on a rolling admissions basis, then you want to get all of your teachers and coaches portions of the app process completed before school breaks for summer. If you wait too long, it becomes more challenging to get everything finished before Sept 1.
Good luck!
