Contact from University ROTC? Should there be?

My DS recently received notice that he received a USAF Type 2 scholarship (December Board). He has been accepted at one school and will not find out about the other two until January 15th. Will the ROTC units at the schools be reaching out to him at all or are they even notified that he has a scholarship? I know he marked ROTC on his application to the schools. He has received ROTC emails from other schools he has not applied to. I was not sure if this might help him make a decision on what college he might choose or not. Thanks.

Not quite sure what the question is. Other colleges may very well reach out to your DS. Or they may not. I'm sure it varies by college/unit. The AFROTC scholarship is tied to the student and can be used at any college that has an AFROTC unit, within the parameters of the scholarship type.

Personally I recommend picking the college that is the best fit for your DS, totally independent from AFROTC. If he is thriving in his academics and having fun in his studies, he'll thrive in ROTC.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my lack of clarification. I was wondering if my DS should expect the ROTC Units from the three colleges he has applied too would reach out. I have been searching on this forum and have seen a couple of answers, one from Pima, who said the following: " That means for every college tour you take contact the det at that school and ask to meet the cadre. Also ask them if you can meet some POCs that are in your intended major program, or the career field that you think you want. They have ROTC lounges where you can talk and hang with them for about an hour. " This sounds like it would be beneficial for us as we do the admitted student tours.

They may or may not reach out. There is certainly no problem with you reaching out. We made sure to contact the unit and met with the officers at each college visit. Sometimes they are not easy to reach. If you hear nothing by email then try the phone contacts. They would love to hear from you.

Will echo similar comments from above. I didn’t hear from any of my units until April. If you’re interested, contact them first!

Absolutely, make sure to include ROTC whenever you do a college tour. My daughter did this prior to the scholarship being awarded as well, just added advice for those that don’t know about their scholarships yet. However, if you are focusing on the admitted student tours, then it is possible that the ROTC units will have a session set up that you can attend. Whether they do or do not, arranging a meeting anyway is a good idea.

Thanks so much for the advice! Soon after I posted, one of the schools he has been admitted to reached out. The Lt. Col. has done an excellent job of encouraging him to choose their school. Even went so far as to say they would come in on the weekend if we needed to when we fly in. He has asked to speak with a cadet or two while he's there (without us hanging around) so perhaps that will give him some insight to help him make his choice.

Way cool. Talking to ca cadet can be great. I actually used to set up such with my son, for people who hung out on these forums and was interviewing at his college.

That was a nice thing for you to do and nice for your son to meet with people. I'm new to all this so I appreciate all the advice that is on here and the people taking the time to help newbies out.
