Continue with Nomination Interview after appointment

30-60 mins max interview..... PLUS 4-5 hours of driving each way (for some candidates). Total - all day long. I agree with USNA1985.
I read the 30 to 60 min max as the time the MOC committee invests in an interview.

The candidates are all competing for 10 nominations.

The argument that following the Admissions Departments' recommendations to pursue all available nom sources, even if an offer of appointment is already in hand, somehow deprives another candidate of a potential nomination or offer of appointment is not valid. Either way, some candidate may be frozen out, whether because of the limited number of appointments available under a non MOC nomination source, or as a result of the MOC nom given to the already successful candidate. There is no practical difference.

I am personally a fan of providing the Academies all of the flexibility possible in assembling their jigsaw puzzles for each admissions cycle. If the already successful candidate discloses their receipt of the offer(s) to the MOC(s), then it is up to that office to make the determination of how to allocate the available nominations. No harm and no foul.

However, I also agree with @MidCakePa with regard to the time and effort required to pursue those additional nominations. I certainly would not fault a candidate for standing pat, especially if the process required an exorbitant expenditure of time and effort (like an 8 hour round trip for the interview). The candidate does not have any obligation to go above and beyond just to provide incremental benefit to Admissions.

To @NavyUMO: Congratulations to your DS! Whatever decision he makes is the right decision for him and nobody should fault him for it.

OP: contact each SA and ask their preference. Generally USNA Admissions has told BGOs they prefer for candidates to apply for all nomination sources for the flexibly reasons cited above. Go Navy!

Wow..a lot of hand wrangling and speculation about what Admissions wants. Yes, the statement that Admissions wants Candidates to apply for every nomination they can is accurate, and yes, having more nominations give Admissions flexibility about where is charged. However, I tend to agree with '85 --once Admissions has pulled the trigger and offered an Appointment , they probably aren't going to think twice about that Candidate and move on to the other 5000 they have to deal with.

One additional thought - what does OP tell the MOC panel when they ask "Why are you here if you already have an appointment to all three SA's? Why are you wasting our time ?". If I were sitting on the panel, I sure wouldn't be impressed by the answer "Well, I read on SAF that I should go through with this nomination to give the Admissions office more flexibility on where to charge the nomination." First, in my dealing with local MOC's offices, they really don't care about the internal mechanics at USNA Admissions, and from a practical perspective giving USNA the flexibility to move the DV nomination to the MOC slate could potentially take away an opportunity for another person in the District /State to attend a SA as well. (From the MOC perspective, the more they can send from their District/State, the better !)

Finally, if you are going to ask anyone ..it is probably the MOC office that you would call....ask them if its okay to take their time to accomodate and give the SA some more flexibility.
