I’m prior active duty navy who’s back at school using post 9/11. Recently transferred from Navy reserve into army national guard. The way my recruiter explained, I can’t have my training split because I am prior service. But she said that if I am able to contract with ROTC, I will have the training orders canceled and will drill as an SMP cadet. As of now, they’re working on getting me contracted non scholarship (both my ROO & ARNG recruiter). From what I’ve seen, you have to be an MSII to contract non scholarship. however I’m getting to the end of my freshman year in college. They keep telling me that I AM able to do this. Should I have a reason not to trust their judgment?

I have not heard of any requirement of being MS-II to contract, only that you MUST be contracted to begin the advanced course (MS-III).

My DS did receive a contract and a battalion scholarship in his MS-I year. However he was not prior enlisted or NG.

Hopefully one of our ROO's can chime in here.

You cant have more than 3 years (6 semesters) left to contract non scholarship. Technically have to wait until start of sophomore year vs end of freshman year.
