The problem is: They weren't thinking.

They DID think, the wrong kind.

They got up in the morning and used the brains and skills that they showcased in their USMA applications and interviews, and chose to procure and sell controlled substances to shipmates, for their own gain. They knew it was wrong. They chose their path every step of the way. They thought, and they chose.

It used to drive me crazy at non-judicial punishment or USNA adjudications (administrative conduct hearings) when adults would say "I wasn't thinking." This usually set me on the warpath.

Whoa. One of my pet peeves. We have all "not thought," of course, but a deliberate series of planned actions shows me a thought-out path of deception.

Correct. They were thinking and they were wrong.
