Now that the vaccine mandate for the military has been removed, do you all think it will be taken away for the Naval Academy as well?

Lots of interesting things to wrestle with. You could have a Navy ship port call in a country where the vaccine is required to enter, so a military member would not be allowed to go ashore on liberty. That makes for a long deployment. All kinds of interesting scenarios relating to deployments, host nation agreements, foreign travel, joint operations, etc.

Glad I don’t have to write the issue papers or draft policy for it.

Concur with CaptMJ…one of the other things I’m looking to see is what happens to the weekly testing for CDC levels medium or high and other situational testing…does that still stand for unvaccinated individuals? Who is going to pay for these tests moving forward…cause it’s likely to increase current testing numbers. Not to mention the administrative burden that would add on units. We’ll see…

How testing moves forward could still impact overnight visitors to USNA, as well. Again, don’t want to put the cart before the horse…so we will see how the implementation guidance comes out.

Total speculation, but I have a feeling that vaccine requirements will stay in place for anyone that wants to participate in SS or any programs where you will have access to midshipmen. It won't be a requirement to attend, but no access prior to that without the shot. It's a shame if that is how it goes, but it is what it is.

Would appear correct Crayons. This is in the "latest news" section of the USNA website.

My son got first two. Boosters became optional not mandated so he and some of his friends didn’t get them.

DoD guidance on the matter should drive what the academies do. That is a good place to start.
