Curious about Summer Leave...

Interesting. Sounds like good changes. I also like 1/C being the retailers. I think the extra year of maturity is a good thing. For most part sounds like the same stuff we did but some of the overseas stuff, wilderness challenge or whatever it is and internships have increased greatly.

There is no requirement for YP's. It's said that if you get forced into YP's, you're doing the Academy wrong. There's so many cooler and better opportunities. Unless, of course, you actually want to do YPs.
I don't think this is an accurate statement. Both mine were voluntold they were doing YPs. DS (2014 grad now in flight training) had his just after his plebe year, DD did hers after her youngster year. She is a 4.0 student at USNA and neither of them had ever been in any type of trouble at USNA or "did the Academy wrong". I don't want current Plebesnomore and future plebes or their parents to get the wrong idea about your post if they or their mids end up with YPs. Sometimes, despite what you put in for, the puzzle pieces don't all work out, and you end up with something you may not have had high on your list of preferences.

There's a required quota for some PTEs like YPs, OSTS, NASS, STEM, and Plebe Summer. In drastic situations, the training office will schedule those over other training and internships (e.g. you had LSAP? nope).

Someone gets forced every year. If it's not you, you're lucky. If it is you, that sucks. Not much anyone can do about it.

This does not happen often, and the training office tries its best to accommodate everyone, but it does happen.
