current plebe

Mine and his roomies did strip and wax for the alpha last semester, and for this Monday's Alpha, they intend over the weekend to strip and wax again. No getting around the floor currently doesn't look perfect, you really can't spot wax without it looking worse according to them. They would rather do the work and pass an Alpha with a little hard work then give any reason to fail it.
 
Related pro-tip: Do not spray Pledge on the steel squaring corners deck plates. It might seem hilarious to cause spectacular falls, but people have broken body parts in those falls taken at full chop speed momentum. This usually leads to excrement rolling downhill.
 
Only one Alpha a semester - What is the world coming to ?

Another related pro-tip -- Pledge on the shower walls is a lot easier than trying to scrap off all soap scum. On the other hand, to much pledge on the shower walls makes the black sock slide too easily and inspector knows its really not clean. (Or so I've been told :))

So glad I came across this …my DH says he is planning to bring a suitcase full of cleaning supplies to DS on plebe parent weekend. I told him it probably wasn’t allowed, or is it?

Parents weekend is the PERFECT time to bring them stuff. Especially cleaning supplies.

No need .... they have different levels of cleaning and inspections. It’s routine.

[Segue moment] Probably the most important thing the Military teaches you is the critical importance of an Orderly and Clean workspace.

30 years ago when I started building this house — which took 3 years by the way — my father who was ~65 years old at the time and just retired, would sweep, clean, and collect debris on the Jobsite incessantly. He enjoyed doing that Job the most .... The Military taught him this .... he was a Navy Captain and had a 23 year successful career.

My son requested rifle cleaning supplies for his rusty parade rifle.

A lot of the “extra” type things, especially for comfort 😬, are company dependent. Usually a list will pop up of stuff allowed/not allowed here on the forums. But keep in mind. ESPECIALLY early on, much is very dependent on each company. They all have different cultures. And are run independently (within rules/refs/guidelines, of course) of each other. I have two Mids....their company cultures are VERY different. One can have a fan plebe year, one could not (for example).

The takeaway for parents, prepping to send julie/Johnny to USNA, is to follow THEIR lead. They won’t even kno initially what they can/can’t have. Another common place that this pops up is parent ms mailing care package. Some companies allow candy, for example, and others don’t.

So my advice is to hold off on the extras, until cleared to bring by you plebe. The GOOD news, is you can ship almost anything via Amazon prime, 2 day shipping (plus mailroom processing time...but hopefully by late in their summer, you will have a sponsor to ship to directly and they can deliver. Or other parent volunteers on the big parent pages on face).

This is all WAY different than bringing out a normal college dorm!!

Thank you! It will make me feel better to give him comfort items when I can...so I will hang tight for more to come on that through his company. DS would sleep on a bed of nails all 4 years at USNA if he had too! 🤣 He somehow manages to make anything work with as little as possible 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thinking that will serve him well in his military career 🤷🏻‍♀️
 
Inhaling those cleaning supply aromas are part of all military indoctrination experiences. Along with weapon cleaning smells and shoe-shining fragrances and bright work cleaning odors!
