I was recently invited to attend a CVW at USNA, from January 23-25. When I was looking at what to bring to this event I noticed that I have to bring swim gear. The problem is, as of right now, my swimming abilities are not up to par. Throughout high school I've been a track & cross country runner, so I've spent most of my time running. This made me have little to no time inside of a swimming pool. Now that I am most likely going to receive an appointment to USNA (b/c I have an LOA & a Nomination), I have signed up for swimming lessons at the nearest aquatic center. There are three levels I am going to take (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), these lessons are about a month each, and are scheduled during the weekdays (after school), so I'm putting off most of my track practices to attend these lessons. The first lesson, which is the beginner level, starts a few days before my CVW. This means that when I go for my CVW, I'll have attended two lessons of my beginner lessons, so I'll have little to no swimming experience while at my CVW. This concerns me because, if I have to swim during my CVW, I may have difficulties swimming due to lack of experience. I have spoke with some outstanding swimmers and all of them have said that in a few lessons I will be a good swimmer since I am a distance runner, but I doubt I'll improve in just one or two lessons. So my question is, what should I do regarding my CVW.
