My DS just returned from CVW at USNA. He said it was an awesome experience! Does anyone know if the candidates are definitely evaluated from this visit? I have read that they are, but the Plebe my son was paired with said they don't.

Yes they are evaluated to an extend. The only way it would be negative is if he went out of his way to look bad, constantly talking out of term, insulting others, or not looking presentable. It's baisically a pass fail "grade" but I wouldn't over think it.

Ok, thank you. I was actually hoping they did do an evaluation. My son had a great experience and felt as though he really fit in. He was exposed to a lot and it was all positive.

There are no evaluations, at least not for the high school candidates. The only way the CVW could become negative is if he flipped the bird at an admissions officer or something like that.

I believe there is some sort of evaluation. However, as stated above, about the only way it can hurt you as a candidate is if you spend the entire WE badmouthing USNA or saying that the only reason you want to attend is b/c your parents are forcing you to do so or confess to rampant drug use, etc. Or being totally non-participatory. It would have to be something MAJOR and I mean really MAJOR to have a negative impact.

You won't be dinged for asking stupid questions, etc. That's part of the purpose of CVW -- to allow you to ask "stupid" questions. So, if you had a great time and participated . . . no worries.

I have hosted a drag and did not have to evaluate him.

my opinion, a good drag:

asks questions about the academy
shows great interest
wants to get involved in whatever that is going on

CVW definitely had me sold on the academy. I even met the youngster that I dragged with when he was a plebe.
