Signing day for spring sports at my school is April 17th. USNA decisions should be out by April 15th as stated on usna.edu. I am currently committed to WP because I was given a date to commit or my offer would get pulled. So I committed so I would have at least one of the schools. Would it be smart to email admissions and let them know my situation? Or wait it out and see what happens? Or email my MOC staff and see if anyone on the slate has heard back?

You may not want to believe this but whether or not someone on your slate has heard or not is not a factor on your acceptance.
Your commitment /acceptance somewhere else does not prevent you from accepting a USNA appointment that comes
out later. It would still be YOUR decision.

I’m not committed for sports, but I did talk to my MOC when they called me about USAFA to ask if anyone has heard from my slate just to see… if you want to at least see if your district has heard back then you could email your MOC, but that won’t really tell you much besides of possibly settling your mind in the sense that no one from your district has heard yet. Which is obviously no guarantee for a BFE or TWE, but just a “that’s why I haven’t heard back, because no one from my district has”.

Is the reason for behind wanting to know is so that you have something appropriate for your signing day? Are you a sports recruit? If this is all the case, know that school sports signing day, especially for a SA, is ceremonial. The real contracts (other than a SA) are signed elsewhere.

I also wouldn’t be concerned if the push behind knowing, is so that you have the proper school for your placecard on signing day. I guarantee, a short while after you leave your high school, no one cares about where you actually attend anymore. And if the push is for the social media posts, the school can issue an “update” if they want. Or you can.

I would not bother admissions or your MOC’s. This signing commitment ‘situation’ isn’t anything that they care about. Even remotely. Admissions isn’t going to get you an appointment bc you need to sign. If I’m understanding this correctly.

Beyond all that, trying to figure out if someone has been offered an appointment from a slate doesn’t mean someone else will not. An appointment offered from a slate doesn’t mean that appointment will ultimately be charged to that nom source. So even if someone else HAS an appointment tent, doesn’t mean you can infer that you will not. Again, if I’m understanding your post correctly.

I would tell my kiddo to sign on signing day with pride. No one can predict the future, and even non-SA signers may change their plans. It’s not that big of a deal. Although I do get that it is from your point of view. My own son had a signing day and we were very proud. You SHOULD be proud. But don’t sweat the little stuff.

Congrats!!

If you are a recruited athlete who has committed to the recruiting coach at WP, then you should stick with that commitment regardless of where else you get accepted after you committed. Even though athletic commitments to SAs (or to Ivy League universities, for that matter) are not legally binding, it is still an ethical thing to do to honor these commitments. The WP coach supported your application and needed to know your decision by a certain date in order to either give this support to you or to another candidate, and you should absolutely honor it now. My daughter (not my Mid) committed to a coach at an Ivy before she heard whether she was accepted by a different Ivy (where she was not being recruited); when she made the decision to commit, she knew that she would be going there regardless of whether she was going to get into the other Ivy. That's what a commitment means. It's a gentleman's handshake, it's you giving your word.

Interesting 🤔

There are posters here, whose kiddos were recruited to a SA, only to have it not come through.

IMO, it’s a nuance of a SA. There IS no legally binding contract for sports scholarship signed for a sport as a SA. In fact, every appointee is under the same umbrella. And can change their mind or walk away up until the start of junior year.

*as far as I know. I’m not a recruiting specialist or NCAA expert*

Admissions already knows that many apply to more than one SA. IF you get appointments to more than one SA, you eventually have to decide which one you plan to attend. Once you have made your final decision, it is appropriate to decline the other appointment offers from the SA's you do not plan to attend. Even if you accept an appointment and don't show up for I-day, no one is going to come knocking on your door asking what happened. Being 'recruited' to an SA doesn't mean the same thing as at a civilian college. No one pays room/board/tuition if attending an SA, so the perk of being recruited isn't the same as other colleges. Being recruited is also no guarantee you will be offered an appointment. You can be a recruited athlete, accept your appointment and then eventually decide to drop that sport with no impact on what all else you do at USNA. Many older threads discuss SA recruiting. You might be told you are their 'top' prospect one day but then a more talented athlete comes along and things change.

MOC doesn't issue appointments, that is done by the SA, so I don't see any value in trying to contact them about that subject. USNA typically indicates that ALL applicants still in the running will be notified by April 15.

I am curious where the “accept or we pull your appointment” for WP comes from. It has been my understanding that you have until May 1 to accept or decline.

There's a more fundamental question here -- which SA do you want to attend? If you want to attend USMA or are ambivalent, accept your USMA appointment and be happy. I'm assuming that, if you committed to USMA, you wanted to attend -- so what has changed? If nothing has, then go there and get on with your life.

If you really want USNA, will you be happy at USMA? I know too many candidates who went to USMA as a second choice and HATED it. If USMA is a distant second choice, really think about whether it's where you want to be regardless of what happens with USNA.

Finally, I'm all for being ethical. But I've seen far too many SA coaches promise candidates all sorts of things, only to not have them pan out. If OP committed to USMA but has since had a change of heart, then s/he should follow that. No requirement to be miserable to keep a coach happy. The coach will find other athletes to fill the roster, trust me.

I am headed to USMAPS so maybe that's where the appointment deadline differs between direct and USMAPs

WP was a really close second for me. Personally I see the same type of outcome after graduating, upon graduation from either school I will be an officer in the military. I liked both very much on my recruit visits. Had a great time with both teams and coaching staffs. I will be happy at either school!

Why did you say "committed to WP" in your original post if it was actually to USMAPS? I know USMAPS is a golden ticket to WP (in 2025), but you are not really committing to WP this year???

Oh ya that’s different. There isn’t an appointment to USMA until successful completion of USMAPS.
