Hi all! Curious to know if your deferred DS/DD had an interview. My DS was deferred to RD but never got an interview. BUT, he and I visited last summer and tried to meet with the person who would be his AO. She was not available, so a really nice guy who seems to be high up in admissions (his name is used to sign correspondence and is on the cover of the admission booklet to candidates) met with us instead. We had a nice chat. Do you think they are counting that meeting for an “interview”?

I wouldn't have thought they would class that as an interview. My DS met his AO several times but still received an email asking for an interview. Your DS is still in the race so don't worry about this unduly. Wishing the best for you!

My deferred DS did have an interview. As your DS is still in the race, I'm sure an interview will be requested. Good luck!

Our experience was a little different than sanman we attended several different functions academy tour (met AO), son attended AIM, and we made a 4 hour trip to the north part of the state because his AO emailed him and said “there’s an academy event and I’d love to see you there” at that academy event our DS had the chance to meet with his AO and the director of admissions but it wasn’t “formal” by any means but from DS’s report it was a great conversation with both the AO and the director ...DS was worried because he never got a request for an interview, yet 3 or 4 days before the decision came down(CGAS appointment) the interview box on his bears den profile was checked off. This leads me to believe that they may have considered one of his encounters as an interview 🤷‍♀️ Of course that’s just speculation for what it’s worth.

I was deferred, but never received an interview request. I attended Bears Day at Coach’s request but never met with AO.

Hmmm...now that is interesting. We never noticed if the interview box was checked, but the only box he has now is CCEB review complete - decision available (giving the deferment to RD). I wonder if the checklist will repopulate after the 15th?! Suspense!

Maybe if they can meet face-to-face and can get a sense of who you are and your motivations, it counts?

My DD had an interview and was Deferred. Heard at a few visits to the CGA that the "goal" was to interview ALL completed applicants (but sheer #'s may not allow). Consider ALL visits to the CGA as "documented"... they're taking notes!

Okay, so maybe he DID have that interview! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎉🎉🎉🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

What does it say on her Bears Den portal?
No mention anywhere about interview. The ONLY box left is the: “CCEB review complete - decision available” (giving the deferment to RD)

From your statement alone, that does not sound like an interview - interviews contain a very specific set of questions. Don't sweat not having the interview just yet, as @CGAdad indicated, USCGA is still working on getting to a 100% interview rate, most of which are conducted by a relatively small group or volunteer Admissions Partners. Even more difficult is reaching those applicants who live in areas where face to face interviews are not possible, making phone or Facetime interviews a necessity. I interviewed a candidate from the West Coast via FaceTime this year...her schedule and mine meant that the interview did not occur until 10:30 PM my time! That was a long day for sure. Just continue to encourage your DS that he is still in the fight and that Admissions must see something in him if they chose to defer him to RD.

Thank you for the kind words! I like the idea that they “must see something in him.” ❤️❤️🙏🏻

My DS was deferred. No interview. But he went to cadet for a day and met coaches. So does that count? Will have to check the interview box. Interesting.

DD was recently contacted by the Admissions Partner who interviewed her offering to help her throughout the enrollment process. Hats off to all APs for what you do!

Agreed. My DSs AP offered to review his application statements. The feedback he received was excellent. His AP has also offered to attend his senior honors evening to award his appointment to CGAS. I have been very impressed with the support the APs provide.
