Hello to all,

The instructions for applicants offered admission's mentions a possible deposit fee for a cadet trust fund of around 2,000 dollars. It also said West Point may or may not decide to ask for this. Does anyone know the likelihood of this happening based on historic precedent? And if so any advice regarding our ability to ask for scholarships to help cover the deposit.

Thanks in advance.

Its normally asked for. At least i dont recall a time it's not asked for. If you cannot afford to pay it then its deducted over time from cadet pay. Thats the quick overview. I'll leave the details to others more knowledgeable

I recently posted a link to the last edition of the cadet budget and finance book in another thread. I just checked - go to page 3, you’ll find more info on the deposit.

Here’s the link:

USNA used to require this and a group of BGOs (probably among others) pushed to get rid of it altogether which USNA managed to do.

Also, certain scholarships can be used towards West Point to be applied to their cadet account. Don’t be afraid to ask. As long as it is not specifically stated ”for tuition only”.

My DD received enough local scholarships to cover the costs. However you need to be upfront and transparent with the scholarship committees on how and where it will go, and the funds will have to be deposited earlier than most of the committees would like.

I have it from an “extremely reliable” USMA source the Academy is looking to roll the $2,000 deposit requirement into the $8,400 advanced loan provided to entering plebes for this (2024) and subsequent entering classes.

In other words, new cadets would be responsible for paying $10,400 back through salary deductions instead of the normal $8,400.

I assume they are trying to align USMA with what USNA has already managed to do. Be on the lookout for a message for Admissions at some point in the coming months.

So plebe pay would be $100 a month instead of $200. Pay it up front or monthly but it gets paid.
Or will they work it into yearling and cow year, decreasing each a little so that plebes will still have a more significant pay?
