I searched "food" or "hungry" and did not find the question I'd to ask below.

Did any cadet get hungry even finished all the meals supplied by USAFA? And what was the solution? Sorry, please do not laugh at me. I am just curious.Thanks.

Being that it's a military Academy, I would highly doubt it. I would even venture to say they eat more than they are used to.

It's actually an excellent question. I was assigned to West Point for 3 years and have visited all the Academies serval times over. I've eaten lunch with cadets and mids at all the academies. I have never seen anyone leave hungry🌭🍔🍕🍟🥪🥩🍗🍖🥓🌮🍅🍆🍍🥥🥭🍑🫑🥕🥒🥬🍞🥗🫔🥘🥮🥠🍲

Not sure what would have prompted this thread, but one thing is certain, none of USAFA’s linemen went hungry this year. Or, maybe that was just the tv (during Army-Air Force game) adding 20 lbs. Just kidding. Calm down people. 😜

Our honor and privilege to serve :wiggle:

The USAFA dining facility is stellar. At one time, you would wonder if your cadet got enough to eat at Breakfast or Lunch because of upperclassmen providing "training" to first year students, but rules have been relaxed to a point where it is a much different scene. Dinner is optional, but if you go, you can sit and eat or take it with you to your room (called a touch-and-go). There is a staff dietician and students (for the most part) have the ability to sit at a normal table, a Lite table (i.e. grilled not fried, healthy etc.), or some teams have heavy tables (i.e. double portions).

I have also eaten at the USNA facility and it was nice as well. Great quality and quantity was my only perspective. That was... until the USMMA dining facility. Sadly, it is not even close to what is offered at USNA and USAFA and is a very sad situation in terms of quality (leadership is aware and they continue to switch vendors). So - it varies, but USAFA is amazing.

@MullenLE Well...which SA had the best chow??
How about Kings Point & the CCA in New London?? How was their food in comparison?
Anyplace other than the above you wish to mention either as a + or-?

I have heard that (in a normal year) the CGA food is both good and plentiful, but that 4C plebes can find it hard to eat enough at some meals while squaring corners, answering upperclassmen, etc. At AIM my DD heard that many swabs lose weight during Swab Summer due to the combination of high daily effort and learning the tricks of eating at the academy.

The amount of food is not questionable. They always have more than enough food (it might not be the thing they said would be served i.e. running out of steak and serving chicken instead), however the quality of said food is not amazing. Many a times I've been served raw chicken, or food that you question what you're being served. The food quality increases and decreases over time, but currently we are in a slump. Mitchell Hall has plenty of snacks, but I find myself cooking more food in my hot water heater, than making the short trek to Mitch's. Again, you won't go hungry, but you might find yourself not wanting to eat.

@BobbyBall DD got a Vegetarian Card while she was there....More options.

This might be a dumb question, but are vegetarian options open to everyone? I’ve never heard of a vegetarian card before, so I’m just a bit curious.
Part of my legacy!

Yes they are, but you have to sign up. It used to be that there was a vegetarian table, and/or a vegetarian cart of food, but on days when the vegetarians had pizza and the main dish was....less desirable, many cadets suddenly became vegetarian, and the actual vegetarians ran out of food. We originally had a list of names, but transitioned to cards to make it clearer. As we were developing the program, the idea was to have the cards with different specifics (i.e. pescatarian vs. vegetarian, no red meat) so that the kitchen would be able to tell exactly how much food to make based on what the main dish was.

I'm glad it has endured! It was a real problem for me as a freshman IC (not to mention the food needed...work).

That sounds like a super cool program. I'm definitely not a full vegetarian, but I'm trying to eat less meat and more greens. I've also read the vegetarian option is often less greasy/healthier. Can you get a vegetarian card, and then only use it sometimes? Is that ethical? I certainly wouldn't do it if that were considered "cheating."

Hahahaha - yeah, I am a life long vegetarian and I actually tried to eat meat all freshman year, but it made me way too sick every time so I just gave up and focused on improving the vegetarian food options

There is a bacon thread on this site. Can you post a vegan alternative there?

So in years past they had a vegetarian card, but now they don't. Anyone can get vegetarian meals, and sometimes the alternative vegetarian meal is better than the what is originally served. But now anyone can get vegetarian meals.

I am only a parent of a cadet so I can not speak first hand as to the food at USAFA but I would suggest reaching out to a present cadet like @BobbyBall (above) as to the food quality and quantity at Mitch's right now. These are different times right now on the hill.
