My DS was offered a National NROTC Scholarship Navy Option scholarship. I have seen MANY different "types" of NROTC Scholarships mentioned on this forum. Does anyone know where I would find out what "type" of Scholarship he has been offered?
AND
Can you accept NROTC scholarship and decline later?
Thank you in advance

I did not apply for a NROTC scholarship nor am I an expert in them. But I do believe that accepting a scholarship now simply "reserves" your scholarship, and you can decline it later. Many people who get into the SAs also have ROTC scholarships which they turn down later as they enter the academies. I hope this helps and that others can confirm this.

When did he submit his application? I am waiting to hear back but submitted it super late. Wondering if we're on the same board or not.

Navy only offers 4 year scholarships to high school applicants. You can accept the scholarship and decline it later. If needed, you can try to transfer the scholarship to another college to which you've been accepted.

Assuming your DS is a current HS senior, then he would have been offered a 4 year NROTC scholarship.

If he was offered a version of this through his NTAG CO, then it may have been an Immediate Scholarship Reservation (ISR)

He may have also applied for a Minority Serving Institution Scholarship Reservation (MSISR OR MSI). But those results aren't out yet so I am almost certain he received the standard 4 year scholarship. Those cover tuition and fees OR they could cover room and board (but not both).

Hope that helps.

He is a current HS student. He is planning on going to USNA but all the advice on here is to keep plan B open. So we just wanted to make sure that he should accept offer of NROTC scholarship and respectfully decline later.

Luckily too my DS has been offered(and accepted) an appointment to USNA. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding correctly that he can accept NROTC Scholarship and decline later. Posts on this forum had/have me worried about "what if something happens and he doesn't make it to IDay" hence-Keeping plan B open.
Congrats to your DS as well!

Then super congrats. I missed that. Watching UFC and reading phone. Yes you can accept then turn it down. DS is still waiting on AFROTC and USAFA

Y

Is USAFA first choice or USNA? If you don't mind me asking.
I think USAFA would be first but he loved USNA visit. We are trying to be 0 influence. I know since he was a kid he wanted to fly snd go to USAFA. He did NJROTC and his commander told him to apply to USNA since he could fly there too. He got NROTC on his first board and USNA w in two weeks of application being submitted. He wants to hear from USAFA to make a final decision but he did say he will take SA above any ROTC even at the Ivy schools

Mine is the same but USNA top choice. But would've gladly/thankfully taken USAFA also. Wants to fly, but is open to other career paths if that doesn't work out for any reason. Has wanted USNA since 8th grade. I know a lot of people on here do... wish there was space for ALL who are highly qualified.

Yeah. I also see so many got usafa who wanted usna and viceversa. We should trade like draft day lol
And yes so many excellent candidates who have no room to get in.
One thing he has not said what if he gets usafa prep and usna? He said when that day come i ll think about it no need to worry right now ..
