hey I'm an applicant for the 2021 class at the USAFA awaiting my decision. I have two acquaintances from a private catholic school in my district get recruited for sports for the afa. Since they both got in does that lessen my chances of recieving an appointment ?

It depends how they got their nominations and appointments. Being a "recruited" athlete means a few different things. Each sport has a few "silver bullets" they use and those people get in and it has little affect on you. Others get flagged as a "recruited athlete" and may get a few more points in that area when the scores are developed. You only compete against the individuals on the "slate" from the source of you nominations. I would assume that you have a nomination from your Congressman. You compete against the other people he nominated for his spot. If the other two acquaintances have applied and received a nomination from the same Congressman, then you will compete against them..

Okay that makes me feel a little better. I got a nomination from one congressman and one senator. How many kids can a senator or congressman nominate, and how many of those nominated can get in ?

Senator and Congressman can both nominate 10 for each open slot, typically they only have one open slot each year but sometimes they have two. The academy picks the best kid from the ten the senator/ congressman nominates unless your representative ranks (they should have let you know if they do, maybe call them if you are unsure) if you are not picked from the slate you are sent into a national pool where you compete against everyone else who didn't get the slot from their congressman/senator. So technically all of the people the senator/ congressman nominates can get in could get an appointment but it is very rare since you are competing against everyone from the country. Having two nominations will significantly improve your chances, as the academy will view your package twice. Best of luck

Each Member of Congress (MOC) can have five candidates in each service academy at any one time. While it varies from MOC to MOC, this usually means that they have one open slot per year. The MOC can nominate a slate of 10 candidates per slot.

Please, please, read the stickie on "recruited athletes", and review in numerous locations how the actual processes work.
