Do they account for height and weight on the CFA?

For reference, I'm 6 foot 1, 180 lbs with about a 6-foot wing span. This makes doing pullups and pushups exponentially harder because of the massive increase of range of motion. Do the academies, account for this when considering scores on the CFA?

No they don't. There is a standard--posted elsewhere on the forum, train to meet the standard.

Task, Condition, Standard (Males) =
TASK = Pull-ups.
CONDITIONS = The bar and you.
STANDARD = Meet the number published by West Point. :wiggle:

When I took CFA, I was same height as you and 175. I was able to pass easily on pull ups and push ups. Just put in the work and you will get there.

You should be able to do well with the running. My DD was able to crush push-ups, abs and did pretty good for pull-ups. At a little taller than 5', running is where she put the extra training. Everyone has something they struggle with, just do the work and you'll get there.

Body proportions do play into the relative effort required to max each component, but regardless, achieving a passing score is achievable with appropriate focus.

Pretty much the same stats (1 inch taller and about 5 pounds heavier), but I was able to meet and exceed the standards in both pushups and pullups. It is very doable.

Like I said and has been reinforced above: TASK, CONDITION, STANDARD. West Point is the premier leadership institution in the world. If you know what's expected, you train to exceed all published standards.

6'3, 175lbs with a 6'5 wingspan here. Started off with not being able to do 1 to doing 12 on my CFA about 6 months later with minimal training. It May seem hard at first, but that's how it is for everyone; It has nothing to do with your current proportions as they do seem very normal.

Close second to Navy ;)
Read the room, TXSUB. No one needs that sort of negativity on the page.

Moose Mountain (great name) will put in the work & get after those pull ups & push ups. Moose, you can go from zero to hero (or at least 'passing/average score') pretty quickly on those two tasks. There are great videos on YouTube (also, the basketball throw--watch a video & practice that a few times unless you do shot put or play basketball).

Sounds like someone might be a touch insecure (and a ’lil ticked from the game results)… GO NAVY!!!

My son is your height, but weighs a bit less, long arms/legs. He is a track & soccer player, so has never done upper body training. Anyway he trained himself at his schools pull up bar when he was able to get on the grounds or at local parks on the kiddie ones. In about 4 months he went from 3 to 13 on his CFA. With push-ups he trained at home and got a solid score on his CFA too. You can do it.

In the interest of encouraging you. At the end of his Junior year football season son was 6'2" 235 (+) lineman. 0 pull-ups and about 30 push-ups, around 11 minute mile:(

After focused training, in August prior to Senior year, during CFA 6'2" 207lbs, 11 pull-ups, 60 push-ups, 6:20 something mile (5:15 PR not during CFA).

One of his essays was about this process. It was tough but if he can do it, I promise you can too.

EDIT: The point of his essay, if I recall, was asking for help when needed. He approached the football strength and fitness coach for guidance on how to reach his goal.

For the heck of it, I checked some Michael Phelps stats, as a guy with some height and wingspan. 34 pull-ups.

And, google Stew Smith’s CFA workout on his website and his YouTube videos on various elements. Stew is a USMA grad, former Navy SEAL and now fitness pro.

You can do this.
