I tried to find this on the forum but couldn't find an exact answer. I wanted to find out if you could be offered an AOG scholarship to civil prep if you didn't receive a nomination? Say I was 3Q without a nomination, can I be considered for an AOG scholarship. Also, can you request to be considered from your Academy liason or is it completely West Point's choice whether or not you are to be considered for civil prep.

Yes you can attend a civl prep without a NOM. 40 to 50 AoG scholarships are given out per year. The RC with input from local FFL will make a recommendation. Your RC is key. Civil Prep is different than USMAPS where you must be academically disqualified. Upon completion of your civil prep program you will need a NOM for an appointment.

Is a medical qualification necessary for AOG scholarship?

To receive an AOG scholarship, you must be fully qualified with a nom.
So -
yes - you need a nom and
yes - you must be medically qualified.

Let your FFR know that you would gladly accept an AOG scholarship. These scholarships are offered to those that were on the bubble for an appointment and usually go to those with great leadership abilities.

Dear buff81,

I am very very confident a NOM is not required to receive an AoG scholarship to attend a civil prep as a "sponsored" student. The civil prep schools will assist in helping obtain a NOM but there are no guarantees.

I know you're a FFR, however they are not available in all areas of the country as you know. I may be implied if you do not have a FFR you are out of luck. And this is not the case. An applicant can ask their RC directly for consideration of an AoG.

Tug -
I pulled up some of my FF training materials to make sure I remembered this correctly, and it is stated quite clearly that to be considered for an AOG scholarship, the candidate must be fully qualified with a nom. I haven't heard that this has changed.

It's fine to contact the RC if there is no FFR. It's fine to contact the RC even if you have a FFR. A candidate is more than welcome to contact their RC anytime.
RCs do, however, rely on FFRs to handle a lot of the questions that a candidate may have so as not to inundate the RC with thousands of questions from thousands of candidates. So, use your FFR is you have one. If you don't or if you don't like your FFR, then contact the RC.

If you get a medical waiver and have a nomination does that qualify for an AOG scholarship or do you have to have a medical qualification off the bat?

You have to be fully qualified with a nom, so you have to be medically qualified. If you are waiting on a waiver, you have not been medically qualified.
