Does AFROTC scholarship type depend on school selection.

I received a Type 7 scholarship, and my number 1 school choice was an in-state school. But after further review of that school, their program does not reflect what I want to study (I want to study Astronautical Engineering, not Aeronautical), and I am planning on Purdue or Georgia Tech.

At first I thought I was not competitive enough for a Type 1, but then the Navy gave me a full 4 year tuition scholarship. So I now assume it has a connection to me choosing an in-state school, is that correct? I would much prefer a career in the Air Force, especially in Space Operations, but I cannot afford the schools without the scholarship, and expect to pay off easily with a military salary.

You can take an AFROTC scholarship, regardless of type, to any school you choose that has an AFROTC scholarship (within the financial restrictions of that type of scholarship). You just need to let them know which school when you accept the scholarship (I believe).

AF scholarship does not depend upon school choice. In fact, once awarded you can take your scholarship to any school as long as if it's tied to a tech major you keep a tech major. Going from aeronautical to astronautical shouldn't be a problem. But you should check with your school cadre to be sure.

My son converted his type 7 to a 3 yr type 2, which allowed him to attend an out of state school. He was also fortunate enough to earn a very nice merit scholarship at his first choice. The school worked with us to front load his merit award so the first year without his AF ROTC scholarship was much less painful. Combined his merit and ROTC scholarships covered fully his tuition after that. Some out of state schools will offer in state rates for ROTC cadets so you might want to check with your school. My son is an aerospace engineering major with an emphasis in propulsion. He really enjoys it.
