Hello, I just finished my AS100 year in AFROTC and after completing my DODMERB exams was told I’m DQ’d for a history of systemic food allergy and for a history of shoulder instability.
I hurt my shoulder playing basketball in high school and had surgery to repair a torn labrum. I’ve had no problems since then and have been able to do PT, play basketball and lift weights just fine. My ROM and strength are the same in each shoulder.
My fish allergy was never diagnosed I just had a reaction as a kid a couple times eating salmon or tilapia. I’d get mild hives, no trouble breathing no Epi pen no reason I would be able to perform any less. I’ve avoided eating salmon and tilapia to be safe, I can eat tuna and shellfish with no reaction.
I talked to the NCO’s at my detachment and they said they’d start the waiver process so I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice, insight or tips about my chances of obtaining a waiver for these. Does it help my case that it’s only certain types of fish or that my reaction is very acute? Will any sign of a reaction during an allergist test be automatically disqualifying? I’m very committed to joining the Military, so how much can I fight this if I am denied a waiver?
Thank you for reading and I sincerely appreciate any advice
