Dropping Senior Classes

Hi there, I received (and accepted of course) my USNA offer of appointment in early January. I have already submitted my 7th semester transcript and I am now considering dropping my AP Computer Science class because I want to free up some time for preparation for plebe summer. I also have had to leave the volunteer position I held at our local science center to free up time as well. Can this harm my appointment or is there not much to worry about?

Thanks

JMPO - keep the AP class. Better to show that you have the time management skills (and grades) now since you will need them at USNA, while juggling academics, athletics/PT and training, etc. all on little sleep. I don't think you need to be "prepping" for plebe summer just yet, other than staying in shape.

+1 ca2midwestmom! Additionally, it will at least save a lot of questions when you send your final transcript in and it shows the dropped course. Don't be THAT guy! I'm not sure it would affect your appointment but its certainly not starting off on the right foot.

Thanks for the advice! How about my volunteer position, will this have any effect on my appointment?

I don't think leaving your volunteer position will have any effect on your appointment. If you got an appointment, then started dropping your ECs and hard classes and goofing off until July, I think that would send up a red flag to admissions, although the only thing they're probably going to know about are your classes/grades for 2nd semester.

Thanks! Leaving my volunteer position is the only change I have made. I just wanted to free up as much time as possible and devote that all to preparation.

Oh and I choose to stick with the class. Pushing a tough schedule now can only help when Plebe Summer rolls around.

Try taking 21 credits at college along with ROTC and lab and PT every morning at 5 then go through your day with 5 hours of sleep at most. Time management is key.

Thanks for the advice. I know not much I do now can truly be equivalent to the stress and hard work at USNA, but I will follow your advice.
