Very excited to report that our DS received an LOA today in his portal. For those that would like to know some stats (it seems everyone likes to see them to compare):

-Not a recruited athlete
GPA: 5.25
Class Rank: 2/405
ACT: 33 (31 Math, 34 Reading)
SAT: 1420 (720 Math, 700 Reading)
Medical: Qualified
Application: 100% complete as of Sept. 1st
CFA: Throw: 77'
Pull Up: 13
Shuttle: 8.7
Push Up: 57
Sit Up: 73
Mile: 5:59

All-Region Baseball Player
3 Year Varsity Letter in Baseball
Usual Clubs (NHS, Beta, etc)
Boys State Delegate

He has met with our Congressman and has been told he has his nomination (prior to receiving the LOA). Has formal interviews next week with our Senators. Plan B is already in place, so he just needs to stay healthy and enjoy the rest of Senior Year. This is our second child to recieve an LOA (DD received one in mid-November back in 2016 she graduates in May). I guess we have 4 more years to be around this great institution. Enjoy the ride...it goes by amazingly quick. Truly Blessed!

Congrats! Thank you for sharing the stats - very strong numbers!

Thank you for sharing DS stats and congratulations! :D

My DS has similar stats, but no LOA 😟.... Do you and/or your spouse have military service history or active duty if you don't mind my asking?

We don't have any military background in our family to speak of....until now of course. I know he had a very good interview. Also, he spent a lot of time on the essays and made sure to get great LOR's. I think people tend to focus on the CFA and ECA's a bit too much. It seems to me that the ALO Interview and LOR's are weighted very heavily. Good luck to your son the rest of the way. It's well worth the effort!

I just want to say congratulations to the parents of these two fine young adults. It's no small feat to have a child accepted to a SA, let alone two of them. Hats off to you. You've obviously done a great job in your role as parents.

That is awesome! He sounds like a phenomenal young man! When was his application status considered complete?

How does USAFA calculate the GPA? Could someone shed some light?

It's based on their knowledge of the school's rigor as well as the difficulty of classes taken. That is, a student at a competitive, rigorous high school taking all honors/AP/hardest classes offered, will have their GPA adjusted way up from wherever it actually is to compensate for the rigor of the program. Similarly, a student taking mid to low level classes at a typical school might have theirs adjusted down a bit.

Congratulations. What state are you from?

@30egb Congrats on the LOA! I saw your post on the appointment thread. Did your son receive a nomination and appointment or just the LOA for now?
