How many EA applicants received offers for prep school? Are they out of the "regular decision" pool? How many offers of appointment is USCGA planning on offering this year? Or another way to ask: what is the percentage of full appointments that are declined by candidates on average? Thank you for posting these stats! Have a wonderful holiday Objee.

Thanks for such great information!

How many appointments will the CGA actually be offerering?
How many of them will be filled by current CGA Scholars?
How many applications does CGA usually get for RA?

maybe its just easier to ask how many are left?

Last year, there were 412 appointments offered, 295 cadets were sworn in, an acceptance of 71%.

Look for similar numbers this year.

Hmmmmm, the info Objee posted really makes me wonder...

My son't SATs are just below those averages, he has a 3.9 GPA on converted scale, including 17 hours of college credit in English, math, computer science, and chemistry -- all taken a local technical college.

He went to AIM, felt really great about that week. His PFE was 200. It could have been higher, and should have been, and will be if he gets the blessed opportunity to take it again...

He had a call from CAPT Brown that was very encouraging (CAPT Brown actually talked to husband and son subsequently)...

And, yet, deferred.

He must have just fallen off the end, I guess. Or maybe there is something in his record that didn't shine through...

He should have taken the ACT --- from what I'm learning I think he'll do better on it than the SAT. And, he should have kept taking the SAT. When he hit the mark that was the avg. for class of 2012, he was content, and redirected his efforts during study time. I see now that that was probably a mistake.

Of course, there is still regular action and cga scholars to come.

He hasn't been a "squeeky wheel." Maybe he should have been. He traveled across the state to a couple of Academy meet and greets... but probably should have asked for an Academy Admissions Partner interview. We just didn't know about how that worked, really.

Praying and hoping and trusting God because He is sovereign.

Here's hoping for GREAT NEWS in the spring!

Thanks, Objee, for letting us know those stats.

Ooops, meant to say "son's" not "son'ts" and the CR on SAT

was the same, the math was 40 points below.

Therein probably lies the biggest problem, according to Granddad.

I feel pretty good looking at the statistics. My CR is above and my math is only a little below. Im pretty sure my GPA is about even with the avg. GPA and I was above on the PFE.

No CGA Scholars (prep school) appointment offers have been made...the selection boards won't convene until late January with the first appointments to CGA Scholars going out in February. We hope to select ~60 CGA Scholars this year and will continue using both the New Mexico Military Institute (http://www.nmmi.edu/prep/) and Marion Military Institute (http://www.marionmilitary.edu/programs/programs-sap.da).

If only it were that easy...

The Class of 2013 is currently slated to be 290 U.S. Cadets and (up to) eight International Cadets, so we will offer as many appointments as necessary to yield 290 U.S. Cadets. We won't know how many CGA Scholars will be offered full appointments (participating in the program guarantees them a conditional appointment) until they successfully complete the prep year, but we anticipate 40-45 based on their first semester academic/conduct performance. The number of applications reviewed under Regular Admissions, not including those applicants deferred from Early Action, is typically less than the number reviewed under Early Action, but I would expect another 500-600 applications. So the number of appointments offered under Regular Admissions will be directly related to the number of EA conditional appointments that become full appointments, the number of EA full appointments who accept prior to April 1st, and how well the CGA Scholars are performing; however, our average yield (appointment acceptance rate) over the past decade has been ~72% so it's probably a safe bet that we'll ultimately offer between 400-410 full appointments to the Class of 2013.

Although every EA applicant who was deferred will be considered for the CGA Scholars Program, the information package was not mailed to everyone.

The last round, or the notification letters that were just mailed this week, had ~50 appointments.

Objee you admission folks must be exhausted!?!
It's definitely a busy (but exciting) time of year for us as the new class starts to take shape. At least we're getting an early start to the weekend...the Academy is closing at 1230 today because of the 6-12 inches (depending where you live and which weatherman you believe) of snow heading our way.
