Are there any "elite" units in the USCGA? Kind of like the Navy has their "SEALS" and the Army their "Green Beret".....

In addition to the MSRT, the CG also has Strike Teams that are trained for rapid deployment anywhere in the world. They’re not really in the special operations community, but they are highly trained specialists that are experts in various fields such as welders, electricians, chemical waste specialists, etc. They can be called on to go anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice to support CG and other agency’s assets.

I wouldn’t call the MSRT elite. I don’t think many in the Coast Guard would either.

The MSRT, the MSSTs and what were at one time called the DOG (deployable operations group) came out of an increased focus on homeland security missions. I’m not sure I ever saw them really used beyond dog-and-pony shows or to augment port security unit (PSU) missions.
