My son received an email in the last 48 hours from his USCGA contact who said he was "advocating on behalf (of my son) for an appointment" and wanted to confirm that the USCGA was my son's "first choice". Should we take this as a good sign?

Having someone advocate for you is very helpful (athletes-coach) so I can't see it being a bad sign. I would be positive about it.

Absolutely a good sign, assuming that it is indeed your son's first choice. Not a guarantee, but a very good sign!
