Took my CFA today, these are the results:
Basketball Throw: 80
Pull-Ups: 14
Push Ups: 50
Sit-Ups: 75
Shuttle Run: 6.1
Mile Run: 6:16

I believe my packet is really strong but you never know. I graduated high school with a 4.1 GPA, had over 300 hours of volunteer hours, Lettered in 3 varsity sports (was a team captain for 2 of them). Took a couple of AP Classes and numerous honors classes throughout, was an all-state/all-area athlete. Was Student Government President, and also participated in Student Government years prior. Was in a total of 7 clubs throughout high school/my senior year. As an airman, I volunteered for about 3 to 4 volunteer events and led multiple job trainings. Which this is my first base and only being here since April of this year. Also I’m highly talked about by my leadership (Supervisors, First Shirt, Commander, etc.) The only downfall to my packet would be my test scores 940 SAT & 17 ACT. I know I’ll be a great student at USAFA and a great leader in the Air Force in general. Also, my ALO said I’m one of the most mature people she’s ever spoken to for my age! So I believe that is a plus!! If you have any advice please feel free to comment, any advice is good advice… because I can take from it and learn from it!

Retake the ACT, 17 is nowhere close to an acceptable score. If everything else you said is true you would make a remarkable candidate for class of 2026 but I’m just being honest when I say retake the ACT as many times as you can to get that superscore up. Good luck to you.

I think it’s too late to register for a test, I received my candidate packet in November. So I’ve been busting my ass (excuse my language) to get it all finished by the deadline, which is January 15th. Thank you so much though!

How old are you? Are you going to "age out" after this admissions cycle? You sound like a great candidate, but those ACT/SAT scores are really pulling you down.

I could see you potentially offered a slot for the AF Prep school. The fact that USAFA promoted you to candidate status with those scores makes me think they are at least open to that possibility.

I’m 20! So I won’t age out after this cycle!

I’m no expert but from what I have read your SAT & ACT are not competitive scores to get a direct appointment. Can you retake either of them? If not, since you are already done I say just submit and see what happens. Do you have a nomination or have applied to get one? Good luck!

I would think you would be the exact type candidate that the prep school would scoop up. How'd you do on your AP tests in high school? Take any college courses yet since being in the AF?

Yeah my test scores are my only worry, it’s too late to retake them! Also, I’ve written letters to both of my senators and a rep but haven’t heard anything back. Thank you so much btw

Honestly I don’t remember, I took 1 AP test in the 9th grade and one in the 12th, and I’ve took 0 college classes so far! I joined in January of this year, so I’m still on my CDCs which I have one more test for then I’ll be done with them.

Honestly you will probably get scooped up for prep school. There is only a handful of priors that receive direct admission but the vast majority are sent to the prep school. “Prior-Preppies” is dubbed their name and the cadets have an intense amount of respect for them. I’m not too sure if you are interested in the prep school but it could be the perfect place to grow and prepare yourself for the academic rigor of USAFA!

I’m totally fine with going to the prep school! It’s a marathon not a race at the end of the day. If I am accepted into the prep school, I’m sure it’ll help me in the long run!

The rest of your application sounds amazing, including CFA, good luck to you!

Awesome man! Also this is definitely a few steps ahead but each class gets a class president and for the vast majority of USAFA’s recent history they have all been prior-preppies. I guess it has to do with their knowledge of the operational Air Force and just experience. It could put you in the running for a potential presidency in the future

The prep school is an awesome opportunity. I'm glad you are open to it.

That being said, last year most prep school appointments came out in March/April. My advice is to not let the time between now and March/April go to waste. I would pick up some SAT/ACT prep books or see if the base education office offers any prep courses. Work towards strengthening your profile in the event that you are not offered an appointment this cycle.

Thank you so much, I’ll get on that

Khan Academy has great test prep options. Free. The rest of your applications sounds great. Your mile and shuttle time are amazing. I wish my kid could have thrown a basketball that far! I think he was at 69 feet when he submitted.
Good luck to you, you will be an interesting candidate to follow and pull for!

Thank you!! I have faith that I’ll be able to get into at least the prep school

I'm almost in the same situation, with a very strong application but also low standardized tests scores. I come from another country and I speak multiple languages and that might help me, I also got 2 nominations (I'm applying to USMA). I really understand how frustrating it is to know that you have a low score, I just wish you the best of luck!
