Been reading lots of discussion lately about WCS, merit based vs intangibles, debate about the process. Here is a peek, eye opening for me the first time I saw it. Thought it a timely post!! Thanks to @THParent for finding it!!

Minute 2:08 is the admissions piece.

That is amazing. I always wanted to see what actually happens during the final decision process. I wonder if they still use the green/red blocks? This seems like at lest 8 plus years ago.

I watched this 5 hours after DS got appointment notice. I bawled over and over. I am so excited for him, his older sister will deliver him for I day and we will go to ppw. Cannot do both. But man, knowing I won't witness I day in person is tough. I know he will be where his path has led him. Thank you for sharing it. Oh, and the 90's called, they want their hair styles back. šŸ˜āš“

I believe it is all done on computers now...that means each board members can have the candidateā€™s information at their finger tips (i.e. see all SAT/ACT scores, view the scanned HS/college transcripts, bring up teacher recommendations, etc.). Also, each record is briefed by a board member while the other board members can glean over the data/information and then vote. I think each candidate record gets a couple (2-3) minutes...compared to a statutory promotion board of about one minute (max).

Remember, the posted video is a mock...Iā€™m sure there was a lot of staging and over exaggerating of the ā€œsampleā€ record.

I throughly enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing it! Again, I am not crying, youā€™re crying!

Awwww daaaang!! There goes my suspension of disbelief! Itā€™s like watching a movie with the hubs [emoji849].

Seriously had no idea it was staged. Didnā€™t know it when it made its way around before, either. Also didnā€™t know itā€™s computerized now. Thanks for the update.

Still a good representation of the WCS. And the caliber of the competition!!

Thank you, and a forum member sent me a private message, it confirmed what my heart was telling me. I need to be at I Day. So, we will hustle and earn the ticket money. This forum is so helpful and everyone is so positive and supportive.

The video you are referring to is actually now 22 years old. It was shot in 1998 and actually part of a larger series about all four service academies. Even with it being 22 years old the major parts are still valid as an overall representation of life at the Academy. I use the video as a reference for my future candidates. If they watch it and go, hell no then it's served it's purpose and if the response is I want more then down the application road they go.
