Maybe it's the first real Space Force movie (TG:Space Ranger) or he retires to fly for NOAA (TG:Hurricane). Or most likely he takes the teaching gig on the ground and greys out with the dignity of his years (har har har - no chance!)

Maverick's papers was pulled off for doing the admiral's daughter; Rooster's due to his mom's request for Maverick to pull it off... sad story as you know

This moment in the film broke the immersion. Imagine if some random officer could just call up the USNA admissions office and have someone else’s application tossed. I’m nitpicking here but cmon, it’s silly.
