As long as you are above the weight standard, and then above 26%, then you WILL take a remedial program. But don't worry, USAFA has top nutritionists and experts that know how to get your body in healthy shape in a quick, yet safe, manner. However, they are super strict about losing weight TOO fast, because being in shape for Basic is more of a priority. If you lose too much weight, they will give you Boost protein drinks. And here's my top advice: DON'T purposely skip meals in order to achieve your desired weight. The fitness/nutrition people at USAFA estimate that you burn 4000-5000 calories during basic (but whether that includes your BMR, I don't know). During the small 10 minute time frames (yes, ten minutes!) that we get to eat, ideally you would get in 3000 calories, so you're already at about a 1000-2000 calorie deficit per day. This means you should burn off a 3500-calorie pound of fat in 5-6 days. The deficit and the consistent PT we do will make sure we lose fat and keep a decent amount of muscle.
