I received a phone call and email from the admissions office at USAFA saying that they want to fly me out for a visit called the Falcon Visitation Experience (FVE) from February 7-10. I got a rough outline of what the days are like, but if anyone has any prior experience with this program and would like to give me an idea of what to expect that would be helpful. Also ideas on what to wear as it will be cold and they more of a summer/fall ideas for clothing. When I searched up this program little came up besides older threads. Thank you in advance!
 
Second the congratulations! The Academy is definitely interested in having you attend! I would get a haircut just prior to attending. You will be visiting during the Dark Ages & before Recognition so...the doolies may be a little stressed..Weather in CO can run the gamut.. have boots/shoes that can handle ice as Tzo is noted to be slippery. You may want to bring a small gift (some candy/cookies for cadet roommates). Just parental suggestions, hoping prior/current Cadets can give more accurate info. Good luck!

My son is an ambassador at the academy. He gives tours and last year had high school kids stay with him. I believe you attend classes with cadets, stay in their dorm rooms, and learn the history of the Academy. As for clothing, I would bring warm clothing and comfortable shoes. I would think dress casual and casual clothing should be sufficient. If you need any more information, I can ask my son. Good luck and congratulations !
 
I second the warm clothing. High altitude and Colorado in the spring can be blustery- at best. We visited the campus in November and it was darn cold. It was so socked in that day, if you didn't know better you would have guessed the campus was on the flat plains.
 
Whenever traveling to USAFA, plan on wearing layers - clouds and winds often hug the front range and make it feel much colder than the indicated temperature. On the other hand, on a clear still day, the temperature will raise quickly. The temperature also drops rapidly when the winter sun drops below the mountains each afternoon.

I host a lot of FVE’s (unfortunately on stand by for this one) but it’s really helpful for people who are interested in usafa. You get to attend classes, go to the Air field, see the special classes, go to the gym, live in the dorms with your host, see how a Cadet day really is, eat mitches (bleh), and see the base. If you are really interested in coming to Usafa take advantage of this. Ask a ton of questions, ask your host to show you stuff. Ask to go watch a training session or minutes or a k bowl. Just try to see and do as much as you can here.
 
For clothing, bring a jacket and jeans and a sweatshirt. It will be very cold on the tzo and at the Air field.
