My daughter was really working on getting her pull up and was close but ended up injured. She had a CT scan and was told she had a pulled muscle. The AFA told her they'd give her an extra month for the CFA which gave her a couple weeks to start working out again. She doesn't seem to have issues with the other events but she is nowhere near ready for that pull up and can only do about 5 or 6 seconds for the arm hang. She just hasn't had enough time after healing to get back to where she was with that event. We're guessing that score for an arm hang will be disqualifying? Thank you for any insight. Thankfully, she was awarded the AFROTC scholarship.

Try feeding DD's numbers in the CFA calculator found here:

Good luck

Would she be able to do one or two pull ups from a dead hang? One pull up is better the. 5 seconds and it might be easier on her muscles to do a quick pull up than try hanging there. I did one and passed. It will also save her weakened muscle for the pushups which I believe are more important as so far I haven't heard of someone passing with low push-ups but can pass with a low pull up score

My DD did not pass the 1st CFA with a 10 sec arm hang. During home practice she was able to do 1 pull up but came testing day she couldn’t do it. She was given a 2nd chance and had a month to retake. She refused to practice the arm hang. It was going to be 1 pull-up or nothing. She practiced using a metal bar at a park that was more similar to the one she used at school for the test, worked on correct form (using the body core and dropping her shoulders) and mentally preparing herself (picturing herself doing a pull-up). Some days she did 1, some days 0. At the test 3 wks later she was able to do 3 pull-ups! I agree with the above post that 1 quick pull up may be easier on her arm muscles. Keep working. Also hopefully she can max out some of the other tests to make up for the arm hang time.

Thank you for the replies. She is bound and determined to get that pull up. Sadly, that pulled muscle set her back and there is no way to get it before her test this week. They already offered her a month to heal (she injured herself just before her CFT) so not sure they will offer again. West Point has given her more time so she'll likely have the pull up for that CFT. Really appreciate the feedback. Thank you!
