DS just found out today that he didn't get the appointment. He was a college reapplicant and got his TWE last year around the same time. Then it was so very upsetting. We sort of expected it this time. I do feel for those who are so disappointed -- especially if you now have to scramble to decide what your kids will do next year. In all, I think my son made the right decision in his college choice and AFROTC. I was proud of him for reapplying, as it is a lot of work, particularly when doing so as a college freshman. He was told by his ALO and interviewer that he was an exceptional candidate and both times had two nominations -- Senate and Congress. Congrats to those who received appointments. Stay safe, all!

is he going to apply again? make them tell you no over and over! I'm sure he's beyond discouraged but being headstrong with them shows how much you wish to go there.
 
Last year my daughter was in the same situation as most of you today who are getting the TWE. She was very disappointed but accepted Plan B, a Type 1 ROTC scholarship. About this same time though her portal updated with a Falcon Foundation Scholarship which she accepted. She now has an appointment to USAFA and will be joining the class of 2024. My point is if USAFA is your goal don't give up. Look at Plan B, regroup and move on for now, you all have a lot to offer. I am proud to see how many young adults dream is to serve our nation.

Same boat here. 33 ACT all As including college Calculus, Civil Air Patrol cadet commander, solo wings, search and rescue and other community service, national honors society student government, and congressional and senatorial nominations. CFA went well.

I won't be trying again because I genuinely don't know what I would do differently, off to AFROTC to hopefully arrive at the same career in 4 years.

The problem is that he will have had 2 years of college and then start over, vs graduating in 2 more years and then starting as an officer with his ROTC training. He is not medically qualified to be a pilot or navigator. Based on what I saw online, last year's class only gave appointments to 31 cadets with his medical qualification out of 1,147 appointments. DS did not get appointment and received TWE with no prep offer; however, he is headed to Purdue University in Engineering. If anyone has someone headed that way, let us know. Most likely will do ROTC as well. Did not add him to ongoing list.

Same boat here. 33 ACT all As including college Calculus, Civil Air Patrol cadet commander, solo wings, search and rescue and other community service, national honors society student government, and congressional and senatorial nominations. CFA went well.

I won't be trying again because I genuinely don't know what I would do differently, off to AFROTC to hopefully arrive at the same career in 4 years.

I'm here with you. I am honestly surprised I didn't get appointed, and I'm pretty upset. I had a lower SAT score (1310) but I had - what I thought - to be a very competitive extracurricular/leadership resume. I was a 4x varsity captain (2 baseball, 2 football) Student Government leader for 3 years, FCA Club Leader, NHS Member, Academic All State & Letter winner .... I also had a lot of community service - I volunteered at a local elementary school 3 times a week for my whole senior year. I really thought I checked all the boxes for being a "whole person". That being said, I am confident about where I'm going next and I feel that my rejection isn't my loss, it's the Academy's loss.

It’s no one’s loss. You are blessed to have the background to choose among many bright, shining paths, and to move on without looking back if you choose. The Coast Guard is blessed to have so many bright, shiny candidates from which to choose each year, knowing they can’t possibly take them all.

DS is doing the same, except he is going Pro Flight. Doing ROTC as well.
