I have another thread, but I was a USAFA preppy in the class of 2019. I am currently a freshman and would like to help out any confused future preppies.

Did you have to reapply to the academy? I feel going with the ROTC route is more beneficial because you already won the scholarship. It’s unneeded IMO to get another nomination and submit an application all over again when you’re at prep.

Yes and no. If you do everything you're supposed to then you'll get a nomination and probably accepted. You still need to "apply" for nominations, but the prep school can give you one. Then once you have a nomination, they kinda send your package up for you. I don't remember reapplying again. You reapply in a way but it's not the whole process again.

Do you have to rewrite your essays?

Thanks for opening yourself up to questions. Very nice of you. I am sorry that your freshman year ended so abruptly. I hope that you are safe and with family/friends.

What is your advice for the the incoming class? What should they be doing to prepare? What should they be bringing with them? And, any advice on how they can make this experience the very best for success in getting into the Class of 2025?

Were you a sponsored or self prepper? Where did you prep and how did you like it?

DD has been offered a place at prep. Trying to understand more about the academics. Anything you can say about that? Also, the website mentions some people at prep can take courses at USAFA in the spring semester. What percentage of prep students can do that?

Am i still in the running for Prep School? Had a very good package in my opinion, no nomination. Have not heard anything yet. Per the portal it says they are working on P offers into May, but I do not know if it is one of those things that they say as a formality, etc. Just want to know if it is time to throw in the towel for this year.

What sort of person is given a prep school spot? Can a person become "over-qualified" for prep school in the sense that admissions doesn't think they need the year of academics?

I am obviously not him, but I will chip in.

As far as I know, the way it works is like this. I will leave nominations out of it, as i am sure you know you do not need a nom for both the P school and Falcon Foundation. First off, let us say you DO NOT receive appointment, whether that be because of a specific reason, no nomination, etc.
From here, there are two options.

First is the Prep School. This is divided into many parts.
These include recruited athletes, prior enlisted, and diversity candidates.
Most are self explanatory, diversity candidates however are split into two groups.

This can include a number of things. Whether you are a first generation college student, USAFA student, etc. Can also be where you live in the United States (not a very good area vs. good area if you know what I am getting at). It can also be your background. Not all diverse backgrounds and stories of resilience rise from areas of the less fortunate. It can be a person struggling with a single parent, dealing with outside things and juggling responsibilities, etc.

Over all, these candidates are typically excelling in physical areas, leadership and character, extracurricular, even overall GPA and academic performance. It is usually something like standardized test scores they use the year to improve them on, as well as strengthening what they already have and adding the "military" side to it.

Falcon Foundation is a different story.

This is, from what I have heard, meant for those "overqualified" for prep school, but "under qualified" for a direct appointment. Here they will hone all aspects of you, but mainly academic performance. Pretty much if you do what you are told and fill the requirements here, you are going to receive appointment the following year.

Sorry for the lengthy description. hope this helps

Honestly I got my offer in early January while others got theirs late May. It just depends on a lot of factors. I would 'throw in the towel' probably early June.
