Friday appointments

They just might. DDs MOC called her on her cell phone while she was in school after first leaving her a message at home.
Yea, our MOC's office call DS while he was at school, too. I happened to be home at the time, so they told me the good news! I have to say that I did say to myself, "Why would they call during a school day? Of course the kid will be in school!"

Our DS got a call on his cell at school as well from our MOC and then a message from our Congressman to call his office. Very exciting day!

We received a call from the MOC's office back in 2012 while DS was in school. Asked if he was available. Told them to give me 10 mins, gave them is cell number, called the school, they called son to a cell friendly area, and he received call. Funny, it was regarding USNA, but his USAFA call came the following week.

I am watching this and reliving the past. I am cheering for all of you, appointment or not, because your passion and desire to serve touches my heart and give me hope for our future!

I thought you would find out online. Does AFA delay in posting appointments to allow the MOC to call? When DS's portal didn't update this morning, I thought he was "out of it" for the week.

DS got his official appointment letter on the portal the morning after the phone calls from MOC and Congressman.

Are the updates always on a Friday? Our MOC do not call, so is DS out for this week also?
Although I am not an authority on the topic, I think at the very earliest you would hear would be Monday. I've never heard of portal updates over the weekend, but sometimes people say they've been updated on days other than Friday.

Does anyone have any idea if AFA is selecting from the NWL now or still doing slate appointments? We haven't heard of a single appointment from our state, and DS has both senatorial and our congressional nominations. But he is agonizing over this wait because he already has appointments to WP and CGA. AFA was his first choice after summer seminar, but we are starting to wonder if maybe something about his profile/record makes him less of a fit for AFA that "military people" can see. If AFA is already selecting from the NWL, this might be a long wait. We might need to encourage him to move forward in another direction.

Last year DS got a call from MOC on Friday, March 14 in the middle of the day (during school). The portal didn't update to show his appointment until March 20. Milfam4, I hope you get that call today but if you don't that means your DS is still in the running ! Wishing the best for you and your DS.

You need to remember how appointments and charging works.

For example our DS only applied to USAFA. He had all 3 MOC nominations. In essence, you can't assume that his profile makes him less of a fit. You need to understand that there could be other candidates that only applied to USAFA and have a higher WCS than your DS on the slate.

I would also remind you that attending an SA is 4 years and it is their choice where they go if they get multiple appointments. 4 years from now the military will decide where they live and their job for the next five years 365/24/7. The AF and the Army have different missions.

So this morning my portal was updating till 745 CDT which I thought was very late in the morning. Does that mean anything or am I the standard USAFA candidate reading into this too much? Btw if we have multiple nominations and get an appointment will every nominating body have a chance to contact you before it goes on the portal?

Congrats to everyone with their appointments!!! So glad to see all the happy(virtual) faces

Reading too much into it.

MOCs are told the candidate that will be charged to them, but not every MOC personally contacts them.

Thanks, Pima, for your response. My son is very torn. He thinks he might want to fly, but he has no flight experience. Plus,WP and CGA have told him that aviation is an option as well. He is not 100% sure what he wants to do, just 100% sure that he wants to serve his country. WP gave him an appointment back in January; CGA has asked him to play football. We have told him that there is no "wrong" choice but don't know how to advise him any further. We have no one in our family who has any military experience. Just a pastor and a teacher!

I don't want him to be turned down for an AFA appointment just to make the choice easier, but I guess I am looking for any indication that one choice is not as optimal FOR HIM as another. They are all such wonderful opportunities that I think that I am trying to make microscopic distinctions. Can you tell that this is my oldest? And now my younger son is talking about pursuing this course! Heaven help me! (I know that my name is "Dad55," but I am the mom! My husband signed up, but now I am the one stalking the forums looking for any crumbs of wisdom.) Thank goodness our spring break is almost over so that I will have to focus on work next week!!

Thanks again for sharing your wisdom. I appreciate it very much.

@Dad55 , my DS is in the same situation, appointments to CGA and WP. I think he is drawn to the prestige of WP, but the lure of 4 more years of football at CGA is also strong! In researching the CGA, I found that a very high percentage of CGA grads remain in service beyond their 5 year commitment. That indicates a high level of job satisfaction. I am trying not to influence his decision! He has done his overnight at WP last fall, and is going to CGA next week, so we will see. Still waiting to hear from AFA and USNA.

Well, I guess my previous posts are moot now. My son just got a call from our senator's aide that he has received an appointment to AFA. So he will have to consider it as well. Not that I am complaining. Quite frankly, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and can scarcely believe it!! I would have never imagined that it could be more than a dream for him. FYI for all who are waiting, his portal has not updated yet. Answer your phones if you can! Prayers for all!

Oh, my goodness! Sounds identical! Can I send you a PM?
