FY24 Branch Commandant Ratings AROTC

After reading this, my question is the value of a bradso. Does it basically bump someone up from P to MP? Is there any value to a MP candidate who puts an MP branch as #1 in also bradsoing? Basically, what is the value of a bradso?
I‘m unclear regarding BRADSO and ADSO, so have asked DS. His 1st, 3rd, and 5th choices currently don’t have either, but his 2nd, 4th, and 6th have ADSO. According to Reddit, they advise NOT to BRADSO unless wanting CY. Maybe this will help

Can anyone explain Quartermaster and Ordnance? My DS’s two Most preferred and he’s getting mixed advice.

Curious if anyone has branch rating intel. Some branches give out Most Preferred rating sparingly, almost a 1:1 ratio, and others more like 6:1. For the branches with the latter description, can the comments indicate the level of most preferred, ie not all MP are created equal? And, can anyone opine on Field Artillery?
Does anyone have a breakdown of the national numbers for ROTC - I read there are approximately 20,000 ROTC at any given time. I'm assuming that doesn't break down to an even 5000 per class, right? So how many MSIV are going through branching right now? The counts are all-in, right? Whether they are already determined to be NG or AR, they are in the branching counts right?

Not sure the total graduating for this year. I’ve read 5900 and 6100. There are about 3339 active duty slots this year. CDTs have to put in their final branch preferences by Tuesday and will find out what they got on Nov. 30.

This may be too simplistic, but in general terms I've always thought of QM as supply, and Ordnance as maintenance.

QM was supply and worked with Transportation on a lot of logistics when I was doing work in the LOG Shop. Lots of Ordnance in Aberdeen with munitions if I recall.

I think all APG’s Ordnance is now at Fort Lee.

I am old Army and none of this makes sense to me. I just hope it all works out for our Cadets!
In the old days, 80's and early 90', cadets worried first if they were high enough on OML to get AD as an USAR-on AD. I knew many who took what ever branch was offered just to get AD. The only cadets who got AD with 1-3 branch choice were DMG.
Is that still the case for cadets not in the 1st Brigade? Getting AD post graduation? My son tells me at tleast from talkng to the MS 4's at his school it's all about the needs of the Army at the time and interview with GPA/OML.
My son attends a SMC so most cadets fall into:
planned to go AD from MS1 year
planned to go NG/AR because I have a job waiting at graduation
planned to go NG/AR but liked cadet land so much they want to go AD post graduation.

BRADSO doesn’t bump you up from P to MP. There are a certain number of branch slots dedicated to BRADSO. So, for example, if there are 40 slots and 10 are reserved for BRADSO, the first 30 MP cadets (ranked by OML within each group) will get placed in the first 30 slots and anyone who BRADSO’d and was MP then gets put ahead of the remaining cadets in that MP group for the next 10 slots.

It seems to have changed considerably since then. For one, they have separated the AD determination from branch selection, so that now the MS-IVs find out first if they are going AD; after that, branch selection occurs. I was Year Group '87, and my recollection was that it was all one ball of wax back then such that -- if you were in the great mass OML-wise (i.e. not DMG) and wanted AD -- it was beneficial to request certain branches to increase your odds. That may not have been how it actually worked -- in other words, they may have gone straight by OML and then assigned branches -- but my recollection is that branch selection played a role in the AD determination. I believe we found out AD and branch all at the same time.

And there were no branch interviews, commandant ratings, or BRADSO.

DS got his first choice “King of Battle” Artillery! Said all of the Cadets got first choice except one got second choice but was good with it. Many branch details and at least one Braddock for AG branch detail Armor. Very happy group!!

Congrats to your son! I remember how exciting Branch night was for my son last year. Now the next big news will be BOLC dates and duty station. Good luck!
How long did your son have to wait for BOLC? Did they get gold bar recruiter or anything to get put on orders early?

My son was one of the first in his battalion to find out his BOLC date and Duty Station in early April. But most of his class didn’t find out until much later. He was not eligible for Gold Bar because his MIBOLC date was early September. He did not volunteer for Ft Knox but got orders in May that he was to report to Ft Knox in June where he worked with cadets at Basic Camp. So he had a few weeks notice that his summer would be spent in KY instead of at home. He went straight to MIBOLC from Ft Knox.

Since all the smoke has cleared. How did your cadet do? Did they get they AD and choice of branch.
How big of a factor did GPA, AC score, and talent based interview play into the branch they were placed into by big Army?
Is the national OML still a huge factor?

I think it's hard to tease out the independent value of GPA and Camp rating because OML takes both into account, and the importance of each can change from year-to-year from what I've seen. Interview and commandant's rating seem important. Looks like it really helps to be "Most Preferred" by one's branch of choice and then make that branch choice #1. What I'd be curious to see is how often cadets got their first choice branch when the branch rated them MP, but it seems unlikely that they would release that information (although I don't know why they wouldn't). My guess is that the percentage is very high.

Of my son's cohort of 9 from his all-male cadet company, they all evidently received their top choice. That said, four of them are branch detail, which greatly enhances one's odds of getting the basic branch . . . after attending the control branch's BOLC and doing a tour in the control branch. I haven't heard that any of them were charged with a BRADSO. Here are their selections:

Air Defense Artillery
Explosive Ordnance Disposal
Infantry
Medical Service
Military Intelligence branch detail Armor
Military Intelligence branch detail Armor
Military Intelligence branch detail Field Artillery
Military Intelligence branch detail Infantry
Quartermaster

@banjoppd I remember you’re a Norwich dad, so thought I would share my Norwich Senior’s Branching experience. MP: Infantry, Armor and Field Artillery. Got his first choice of Armor. As I’ve mentioned on the forum before, the kid is a B/C student so GPA was not great. But he’s a PT stud, O at camp and scored well in the leadership section. Of his close friend group, 4 got first choice, 1 got second choice (Bradso), 1 got third choice. (all received most preferred for their branch) Much happiness all around.
