FY24 Branch Commandant Ratings AROTC

@banjoppd I remember you’re a Norwich dad, so thought I would share my Norwich Senior’s Branching experience. MP: Infantry, Armor and Field Artillery. Got his first choice of Armor. As I’ve mentioned on the forum before, the kid is a B/C student so GPA was not great. But he’s a PT stud, O at camp and scored well in the leadership section. Of his close friend group, 4 got first choice, 1 got second choice (Bradso), 1 got third choice. (all received most preferred for their branch) Much happiness all around.
Congratulations to him and your family. I was watching the live stream of branch night. The NU stats sounded like most cadets got top choices. My son did say there were a few who got branches way down on thier list.
My kid is very similar to yours. B/C grades but he's a PT is top block too. The new ACFT is better suited for my son, played skill position on football at NU for 2 years. AC this summer. Did your son go to CTLT after camp? When do they find out about report date for camp?

My son was not selected for CTLT most likely because of his low gpa. His lack of concern about his gpa has been an ongoing issue since middle school and I gave up years ago. But it all worked out fine. He took a summer school class online and worked a PT job where he saved money to go to Europe with his buddies and tour Biergartens, uhm I mean historical sites.

My DS goes to Norwich (freshman) so my husband and I watched the branch night livestream. It was awesome! There was so much excitement for each senior and such a great way to announce each one. You could feel the love and happiness in the auditorium. Best of luck to your son, I’m sure Norwich prepared him well for the army!

What a beautiful way to describe Branch Night! Yes, Norwich has been a great experience. Enjoy the journey!

Re CTLT, tell your cadet to keep his ears open with his peers. My son's CTLT kind of fell into his lap after the #1 cadet in their class had some sort of complication with his. He and my son had been roommates as sophomores, so he asked my son if he wanted the CTLT instead. Done and done, as they say. Up to that point, from what my son described, the CTLTs seemed to be very much in flux among the cadets, largely driven by OML.

I wanted to update a post I made last week to include updated BRADSO information that I have since learned in the event that anyone finds this thread in coming years.

Of my son's cohort of 9 from his all-male cadet company, they all evidently received their top choice. That said, four of them are branch detail, which greatly enhances one's odds of getting the basic branch . . . after attending the control branch's BOLC and doing a tour in the control branch. [Edit] Three were charged with BRADSO as indicated below. Here are their selections:

Air Defense Artillery
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (BRADSO)
Infantry
Medical Service
Military Intelligence branch detail Armor (BRADSO)
Military Intelligence branch detail Armor
Military Intelligence branch detail Field Artillery (BRADSO)
Military Intelligence branch detail Infantry
Quartermaster
