Hey all, I forgot to post this in a thread I made a while back but since I joined the Air Force I have been unable to take college classes and have been out of school for a year.

Would the fact I was in training status be considered for this gap on my application?

Thanks.

Yes, your status will be considered. The lack of academic work it will not be held against you. Most AF bases have an Education Office or similar so you can seek out the different programs available to you. USAFA has a dedicated program for you called LEAD (which you may be aware of). This is the link: https://www.academyadmissions.com/prepare/enlisted/

I worked with an airman two years ago, and he is now a member of the Class of 2027 after a year at the Prep School. As you know, the Prep School's main purpose is to help airman transition to the Academy. Best of luck with your application!

Thanks for the response.

I am going to try but the last math class I took (college calc) I got a C so I will probably need another year to redeem that.

I know they are very picky academically.

That is why there is a prep school. Don't wait to redeem yourself, try now.

Since you're an active airman now...the KEY to the process, if you wish to go for it...is getting your leadership in the loop and getting yourself into the LEAD program!

Speak with your first sergeant, and folks at the education center, and ask about the LEAD program. And press from there.

In your opinion, should I wait another year to apply in order to clean up a blemish on my academics?

Referencing the post above I got a C in college calc 1 and math is probably the premier subject when it comes to admissions.

Although it is an outlier since my unweighted HS GPA was a 3.82 and a 1350 SAT (700 reading/writing, 650 math) with a lot of extracurriculars in HS and since joining the Air Force.

I just started my tuition assistance since I recently got my 5 level.

Thanks.

No! Definitely focus on starting this year. But, as noted by flieger83, you need to meet with your squadron leaders as they will be completing evaluations for you. USAFA cannot find 'enough' qualified airman to fill the designated slots. Your numbers already place you very high up on the list. But there's work to do so get started as soon as you can. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have more questions.

Recipient of Red Robe from Navy/Air Force game bet in 75 or 76. . .

My USMA robe won in the '74 Army/Navy game was very active in Bancroft Hall from 07 to 11 on

I have a very nice USMA and USNA one in my closet. Made of the finest materials...but over the decades they seem to have shrunk a little. Sad.
